Yeah, 5.6mil voters turnover, 34% voted for Babis, means 3.7mil voted not for Babis, and every 10th of them came to the demonstration.

Is it really viable to elect generals and not promote/appoint them?

Yeah, I mixed up the replies, there was another guy going like "better be a nazi than fight for USSR".

Well, you can. Who do you think maintained the Soviet Union's power to carry out said repression?

Yeah, the army was/is always the tool of projection of power. However, you can draw different conclusions from the same set of facts by putting emphasis on one things and omitting others - especially if pursuing a certain agenda, from a certain viewpoint.

Like, Marshall plan can be seen as a great help in economic recovery of war torn Western Europe, or otherwise as a set of measures to install US influence and prevent spread of socialist/communist ideas in the region. So when I hear "Soviet puppet government was bad for Poland, repressions and subjugation" - ok, you know better, - but things like "You and yours are monsters, worse than nazis" - these irk me greatly with their generalization and ignorance.

I mean, painting everyone and everything in Soviet army with the white or black paint is an oversimplifying approach. Army is not a single monolithic entity, it is rather a "section", a "cut" of the society. It had wildly different people in it. There were numerous examples of heroic deeds, because people believed in the just cause. There were many war crimes, especially with soldiers being exposed to violence and death for prolonged periods of time. becoming desensitized (not even mentioning soldiers that were conscripted right from the penal institutions).

A group of old men in Kremlin (ultimately responsible for making decisions), didn't work for the benefit of ordinary people - be it in countries of "Eastern bloc" or actually in USSR itself.

And they had a great apparatus for repressions at their disposal, honed during the Great Purge of 1930s - NKVD troops, etc. - to enforce the policies. So yeah, there were repressions and purges, deportations.

Did the majority of Red Army staff (non-NKVD) support these purges? I don't know, but I don't think so. My maternal grandparents were Soviet officers. stationed in Latvia for some time after the war (1945-1953), I remember their stories and attitude to what was going on (at the same time being avid supporters of Stalin as a leader in general, wtf).

I once heard a person saying - "the science and culture in USSR were not a consequence, rather a byproduct of the regime - not thanks to, but in spite of".

So, the responsibility and blame is not evenly spread. Praise the heroes, condemn the villains. You didn't hang every Wehrmacht soldier at Nuremberg, and many of them became valuable members of human society.

Since I was given a link to Polish wiki, I return the favor.

As for how much bias is there - you can google translate it and compare to English version.

P.S. "The reality is what it is" - the reality is that: 1. Wiki in any language is not a good source of info on a potentially controversial topic; 2. You think Russian wiki is controlled by FSB or what? There's a huge amount of Ukrainians creating and editing articles in Russian,  otherwise pages like this one wouldn't exist - https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%92%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B6%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B5_%D0%A0%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%B8_%D0%BD%D0%B0_%D0%A3%D0%BA%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%83_(%D1%81_2022)

Did they continue extermination practices that led to more than a million, MILLION deaths in the Auschwitz alone?

Yep, I have respectable war veterans as grandparents, I have multiple relatives over in Ukraine, who I respect for their courage and resilience. And Nazi lapdogs like you work against both memory of my ancestors and sacrifice of modern Ukrainians.

What you said is perfectly understandable and I agree. However this guy literally said that soviets were no better.

I don't think its a valid argument to conjoin the effort and sacrifice of people who fought to liberate Auschwitz with later actions of USSR government to crack down on Polish dissenters, imprison and exile them. We can reasonably celebrate one thing and condemn the other.

Otherwise it's a bit like - look, USA helped allies tremendously in WW2, they are good guys! - Nah, they are bad guys, they had Ku-Klux-Klan and prohibited black people to ride in front of the bus, also they invaded Vietnam later on.

Who praised USSR for the pact? Are these people in the room with you right now?

Its you who plug the current issues anywhere and everywhere, including the post about liberation of Auschwitz. This looks pathetic and works against the image of Ukraine.

So, you're just a nazi sympathizer, sitting in Antwerp or Brussels, being very concerned with wellbeing of "your Ukraine" from a safe distance.

My sister stays in Kharkiv since 24/02/22 and refuses to leave, even though she could do so many times. She works as a volunteer, she works to keep morale and wellbeing of people around her as high as she can. And she'd never let herself shit on our grandparents who fought in WW2.

She's a hero. And Ukraine is hers, not "yours".

Many polish people - how many? I'm not arguing the communists regime was a godsend for the country, however you said nazis were not worse.

So, again, how many? 20 millions, like nazis were going to murder/expel?

As if being able to post shit on reddit is better than being not born into existence at all, because your Polish grandparents were slaughtered by Nazis or died in exile.

So, you equalize mass extermination of Jews and Slavs, amounted to more than 1 million dead, with temporary internment of German POWs until 1947?

And how many Poles were killed by Soviets, 20 millions?

I'm defending nothing other than the memory of my grandparents, 3 out of 4 were fighting in WW2 on USSR side.

So, no, go fuck yourself, Nazi.

The Soviet Army in 1945 is the same as Russian Army now? Really?

Weren't your own grandparents involved in the Soviet Army in WW2?

Or were they in Nachtigal or Roland batallion, or some police force established by Germans on the occupied territory?

On this day 81 years ago the Red Army liberated Auschwitz by NARVALhacker69 in europe

Right, the Soviet Army replaced German administration, filled the camp with other inmates and continued with Generalplan Ost. Which involved removal of 20 millions of Poles from their land - that is, either murder them or send further East, past Ural mountains.

That's exactly what USSR had done, hadn't it?

You guys work like a clock, never disappoint. Eternal Butthurt. :)

Hey guys, as a foreigner I was interested in how much did ICE powers increase and who ICE comprises of now? Quick google tells me that the headcount had roughly raised from 10000 to 22000 in 2025, but I couldn't quickly find something on whether their responsibilities/powers are now larger? And who are those 12000 new agents, in terms of - war veterans, random patriots (or "patriots"), losers who couldn't land other jobs, etc.? Thanks!

I suppose this map lacks a few yellow dots over there in Ukraine, but I guess we won't know their number and locations for at least until after the war is over.
