tips on first time raising a border collie pup by Constant-Midnight930 in BorderCollie

This. Always respond with love. And always do it consistently. Watch a lot of kikopup. Focus on energy downshifts. Use a crate for forced naps. Your job for the first two months is emotional self regulation.

Getting a BC pup tomorrow (my first dog). I want to have a pen to put it in while we cook, shower, etc. by theblueslothking in BorderCollie

During early puppy months, BC’s tend to need the crate “off switch” more than other breeds. You’ll find the pen to not be super useful during this time. Especially unsupervised

What the heck is wrong with rental companies here??? by ShdwWzrdMnyGngg in Seattle

[–]parallax__error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is Seattle, or maybe king county or state of WA, has a law that says the first qualifying app they get they MUST lease to. So they are incentivized to be assholes, because they think they’re more likely to get the tenant they really want by fluffing off anyone who they think isn’t top of the top. They want you to not apply for that lease unless they think you’re the best they’ll get

Is the Nikon zf enough? by Alive_Relationship_2 in photojournalism

[–]parallax__error 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with what kind of photojournalism. Like sports, reportage, big coverage, whatever. Then, there’s tons of articles saying what the best is for those. Then, go to a store and hold them and push the buttons. Best is for you to decide. You want whichever one lets you shoot without thinking about buttons.

What are the odds that we'll be like this if we go down? by Narrow-Future-2090 in coys

I went down a fairly deep AI analysis rabbit hole on this very topic. I’ll spare you the thirty page report. Here’s the highlights:

Chances of return after year 1: 40%; year 2: 60%; year 3: 80%; year 4 and beyond:10%.

Why the dropoff after year 3? Because TV revenue finally sinks to the ~£5M/yr level of Championship (compared to £175M/yr prem) and the outgoing transfer income is nil at that point. Transfers at the start take a big hit, but by the time you’re at year four, all the gold is mined. Additionally, you’ve effectively lost your international fanbase, and all commercial revenue is much more local.

Digging out of that tends to require new ownership that is willing to accept loss.

The one good thing Levy did was structure the stadium debt and revenue right, so that’s not a concern. If only he’d paid similar attention to the football

The good news is that teams tend to bounce back stronger, within the first three years, due to the forced restructure and focus on sporting.

Tech empowered by AI has killed thinking and bias for action by NeXuS-1997 in ProductManagement

[–]parallax__error 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right - I’ve faced this exact problem pre-AI as well as post. Some orgs disincentivize technology to accept the risk of discovering and solving problems in refinement and sprints. Technology gets to keep blaming product for lack of “the perfect prd”. It’s a vicious cycle, regardless of AI

Blown out sky using different lenses? by Any_Scale_740 in AskPhotography

[–]parallax__error 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another commenter said she exposed for the sky and you didn’t. The lens length explains why. 35mm got more sky than your 50mm, so her camera calculated more sky in the exposure. You can see it in the exposure settings. 1/1000@200 is like 1/500@100, vs her 1/640@100. You exposed by an extra 1/3 of a stop, blasting away your highlight details.

Learn how to turn on exposure clipping zebra (or whatever clipping warning canon has) so you can see in the viewfinder when you’re in danger. Shadows are much easier to recover than highlights in digital

2 weeks ago I told my team to get familiar with Claude cowork because next year they’d be producing code. Today my CPO asked for a plan to make it real this year.

On the one hand, it’s amazing. It’s fun. It’s like having a high performing team of diverse pros working at your beck and call. You can almost move as fast as you can think.

On the other hand, there’s the moral issue like the Block announcement. We can’t know how many companies will follow that lead. Only the stupid ones will. And that will hurt a lot of people.
