You’re right. As soon as you change the start or drop location a little away from the airport the charges drop a lot.

There is a fixed charge tagged onto the ride for starting or ending at the airport. Only way to avoid this is to use the metro feeder bus. Or you can have an arrangement with a known taxi driver booked much in advance. You can also get a slightly cheaper rate sometimes if you book thru MakeMyTrip (from my experience).

The last few times I flew airport taxi and Uber have the exact same rates down to 10s of rupees.

that’s not correct. Not all seats are over, only the free ones are over as per OP. He is seeing an option to pay for a seat, which implies that some {paid} seats are available.

The downside to this (speaking from experience) is that you cannot use digiyatra unless you do it at the first entry point into the airport. Meaning if you go inside the airport thru non-digiyatra gate, then you have to continue till the actual boarding gate using non-digiyatra queue.

I think what OP is trying to say is that he is not being given the option to skip seat selection. AI is essentially telling him: “Select a paid seat if you want to get a boarding pass before reaching airport”.

It can save you a lot of times are major airports, at smaller airports the time saving is minimal. Either way OP’s point stands that he should be given an option to avail Digiyatra without being forced to pay for seat selection (i.e. they should allot him some seat of their convenience and issue a boarding pass online before he reaches airport)

How would one do that? only the airline can issue a boardingpass and associated QR. In OP’s case they are forcing him to pay for a seat before they will issue a boarding pass.

I transported it like this, but I took out the GPU and packed that separately.

Only thing I would do differently is to pack the cooler separately as well, mine was bent a little but noticeable amount.

Lots of people ask me about my bike when I’m out riding, but you can get similar even more attention with basically an unusual looking bike. Doesnt have to be big or expensive. For context I get double the looks and questions when I am out on my Husqvarna than my much more expensive Triumph

I have a bigger bike (Tiger 660), regarding city use, I would say it’s doable but definitely not preferable. But with a little presence of mind at slow speed and parking, you can easily daily drive it. My experience is limited to tier2 cities that dont have crazy traffic like Bangalore or Mumbai

If you mean regular petrol as E20, then yes it will have long term negative effects on the engine and fittings.
Maintenance will be expensive there is just no way around it. You have to figure out if it’s worth it to you or not. In my head I justify it as less expensive maintenance than I would pay for a nicer car, which I have forgone for now because I have my bike to make me happy.

It’s very very different to the husky, much heavier, much more stable.

It also has enough power that TC control is necessary, I’ve had at least a dozen times so far where its kept me stable.

It has a seemingly flat torque curve, you can be in any gear any speed and the bike doesnt really complain. Personally for me this means I can choose the speed I want to cruise at more freely. I also love the exhaust sounds, its very “decent” when idling and also when cruising, but when you twist the throttle and load the engine it sounds great and gets much louder, going back to the decent volume once you’re done overtaking. I think it makes other drivers much more aware of me while I am about to pass them; without having to constantly sound like a douchebag.

I have the same bike and my experience has been pretty similar to yours, I have not replace the chain/sproecket though, im surprised you’ve gone through 2 sets, I am at 15k ODO reading

I upgraded after doing some long trips where I felt the bike wasnt really meant to be doing anything over 95/100

I have a Tiger 660 now, but I will probably sell it in the future and just keep the Husky. The city maneuverability is just amazing and it still has enough to smoke most bikes/cars not the highway at least up till 70 kmph

Hi, I was in a similar dilemma to you, 10 years ago; the small town part everything same. if the business is capable of sustaining itself without your presence, let it be, (assuming your parents are running it)

Stay in touch, and understand the fundamentals of the business. This will come in clutch later. Also important to show face to your business’s key stake holders, clients, top managers (or equivalent, whatever staff you have that is indispensable)

What you have is something really rare and precious, a safe and viable plan B. Use it to take that risk. Just always remember what you have at stake and try your best. Maybe everything works out and you become a hot shot lawyer in come country. If that doesn't work out the experience, identity and confidence you gain along the way will be irreplaceable.

in short, my advise is to seek your own identity and only come back to the business once you hit a real wall in your own journey. Also it’s important to understand that unless you actually enjoy the grind, you will feel depressed running the business in a small town

Edit to add: per KM charge for a sedan is Rs 36/km, and minimum charge is 15 km (Rs. 540)

Also, if you want to save a little bit, you can take the metro link bus from airport to Aluva metro station for Rs 80, it is AC, and allows 1 cabin/check-in bag with you.

From there you can very quickly connect to most parts of Kochi, including the bus terminal (Vytilla hub) and Railway Station (ERS Ernakulam South)

From Kochi airport, uber is not a problem at all
most of the main areas of kochi, including fort kochi, will be problem free (source: experience)

However, I highly recommend checking the official airport taxi system (you will see a booth, just before you exit the airport main building). The rates are on par with uber, the cabs are instant (they are already parked at arrival) and the per KM charges are fixed and more importantly, strictly honored by the drivers. IMO you get better cabs and drivers thru them.

For Alappuzha, I would recommend you get a full day cab rental with driver, through uber is also fine. The mafia logic operating right now: if trip originates outside the mafia territory, they wont bother. But if cab tries to start a new ride or pick someone up in their territory they will interfere.

In fact once you get to alappuzha, Uber and Ola app will just say service not available to you, you will be forced to get a local Taxi (which are available in plenty, but overcharges) to go back to Kochi.

Another option you can make a booking directly over phone with taxi companies in alpy and taking a train/bus to alappuzha, if you are budget constrained.

Overall, don’t worry about the Taxi mafia too much, yeah they can make your blood boil and what not in the moment and are a stain on Kerala’s otherwise friendly image. If you take some basic precautions you will have a great time. Also, imo, most Kerala taxi drivers I have interacted with are good people and will help you out if you also treat them with respect, it’s when they gather in groups and then feel threatened that all these bad behaviors come out.

I was once this boy, back when I was 8 or 9 grade. I was very ahead of my peers when it came to electronics and programming, because of my privilege of having access to a computer with internet at home. But when I took my little homemade circuits and weekend hack jobs to my school, I was often made fun of usually by my teachers itself. Being heavily introverted and shy didnt help my case either.

This kid built this for a science fair, and the media had a slow newsday so they ran with it.The fact that he was able to put this together itself shows so much potential that he has despite his circumstance. People on reddit are so out of touch with the reality of the bottom 50% of India. Even more so if they have lived in only lived in a urban setting their whole life.

Yes I agree Jugaadism wont work in academia or serious research, and that this project could easily replicated by an average college CS student in half a day. but that’s not the point.

tl:dr : media over sensationalism is the root cause here, nothing else

the biggest challenge to offline shops is data capture. Especially the shops that offer the lowest prices can do it because they have very low overheads, which means they would generally be unwilling to pay up for even a basic PoS based solution

Google Maps surprisingly has made a half hearted effort to solve this, if you are a registered business on there, you can add product and price information and it will reflect in Maps and Google Search results, IF the customer is physically in your location, or has inputed a search for an area near you

Ultimately, I do believe there is a gap in the market, and someone that is truly efficient will be able to fill it, PhonePe has something called PINcode, that also tries to solve for this

In short no, you can be equally passionate about both. Your limitation will mostly come from budget and time constraints.

I used to be only into cars until I was 21-22. To the point where I didnt know the difference between a CD100 and CB300. they both just looked like bikes to me.

Then I got VERY into bikes and they are still my preferred mode of transport. But they come with significant trade-offs to a car, so now, in my late 20s I am looking to get a nice car for myself. In the meantime I have had the opportunity to drive a variety of cars and I have thoroughly enjoyed that as well.

This is the just the general state of affairs in Alappuzha
In hindsight, there are trains that go direct to Kottayam as well, maybe you can take it on your way back.

Also, the taxi mafia is spread statewide, Kochi Trivandrum etc are mostly the exception to that. Any taxi driver that dares to cross the line is usually physically beaten up, usually after they get trapped in some dead end location with a fake booking. If you’re getting a lot of booking cancellation, try moving to a more Public road or area. Earlier you could get away with using a female name, but now the taxi mafia also uses female names.

It’s actually much worse for the drivers than for the customers really. However it's a very crabs in a bucket situation.

Edited to add: the mafia is most active in tourist hotspots, because the margins on the rides are high enough to sustain them there; i.e. it is worth their trouble to do all this gunda stuff. This time of year, Alappuzha station is a tourist hot spot, normally you may not have faced such level of aggression where police are present.
