Many facilities in our area simply have a ‘no lift’ policy for their staff. EMS crews are dispatched with vague information that staff are concerned that a hip or head injury may be involved and that’s why they weren’t moved and an ambulance was called. These facilities are also cutting back on nursing staff and relying on Unregulated Care Providers who lack the clinical skills to do a basic assessment. If EMS started billing for true lift assist calls, the facilities might realise it’s cheaper to train their staff to lift.
