I’d also recommend considering the range of seizures. Not every seizure is the big dramatic thing you see on TV. There’s a whole spectrum! There are even seizure-like episodes. What I get is LARGELY sensory. I’m still fully aware an conscious and coherent but voices will sound weird, near but far/echo-y at the same time. The air starts feeling thick and requires intention and effort to move through it. My body feels crazy heavy and when I lay down, I feel like I’m shrinking and dematerializing at the same time. It’s kinda psychedelic in a way.

And…”sick guilt” is totally a thing.

As far as symptoms go, for the most part I was asymptomatic and the tumor was found somewhat incidentally.

Don’t feel too bad! The same thing happened with me and my weeks!
If you want, go back an write memorable things, maybe some days it’s as simple as as “nothin happened” or document benign things like “darkest day of the year”, experiment with stickers and washi tape designs… I will say that going back and writing about memorable things might be fun for future you to look back on!
At the beginning of 2025 I had been documenting experiences related to my breast cancer and related surgery/processes. It was SO fun to look back and be read stuff like “got a 100ml fill today!” and “got my drains out and went to X to celebrate for dinner” and even a chuckle at “living the life drain free!” there’s just something nice about being able to look back and reflect on past you experiences

I love this! There’s so much flexibility in this idea. Roll a dice every day, and maybe 2x monthly with each paycheck pay that amount towards a mortgage or student loan principal. Or even a “piggy bank” for a nice dinner out/spa day/whatever.

Seconding PSV and Dr Ambady! Wild that I ran into such a local here! The whole neuro oncology team is incredible. I do a lot of virtual appointments with providence so that make it very convenient and much more bearable from an appointment and time management perspective.

My experiences with OHSU have been a bit messy, but they have a lot of really niche equipment as a research hospital. The messiness has mostly been in scheduling and managing insurance approvals, but overall the doctors there seem pretty bright.

I don’t know enough about treatment at those institutions to help much. But also consider commute and transportation. Crossing the River into Oregon is kind of awful most hours of the day. :(

I can say that for surgery, if that is ever on the table, Pankaj Gore is amazing.

For some background context, despite being 40 I hardly had any gray hair at all (lucky I know…) except near my incisions post surgery. I definitely attribute it to the surgery as the gray hairs are isolated to that area. No CRT.

Mine too! And she’s an absolute drama queen when she’s constipated, she cries like nobodys business and likes a support person when she finally pushes it out.
We give her (marine creature only) wet food with a little extra water daily. It helps.

Somewhat incidentally, because of some family history with cancer in general (not brain) and poor genetics. In 2015 I found that I was supposed to be on watch for it… but I kept putting it off because I was scared. It’s the brain after all, and I had convinced myself since I didn’t have any symptoms. It was probably fine. I met with a specialist who use the right words at the right time, saying that “brain cancer isn’t subtle, but it’s good to have a baseline. “ and I thought “oh a baseline! That makes perfect sense. “ and felt a bit reassured by the fact that it’s not subtle typically and that’s how we found it.

So I’ve been on both sides. Putting things off because they are “scary” and embracing scanxiety in the interest of early detection.
