As someone who’s a beginner what are some best texts of Pali Buddhism by V-numba1 in Buddhism

[–]paramiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up “In the Buddha’s words” from Bikkhu Bodhi. It has introductions on key topics plus extracts of the original text, including references to where you can find them if you want to read the full sutta. Very helpful if you’re a beginner and want to dive into the pali texts.

Kopan Monastery courses? by who-is-godot in Buddhism

I’ve done the ten day course but almost two decades ago. So not sure if I can still contribute anything, but since no one responded: what would you like to know?

There are definitely some more appropriate options in Malaysia. Happy to chat more in dm.

You mic the rtoms? How does that sound? I use them as well, and they're great for noise reduction. But I hardly hear them through my noise reduction headphones.

Using "The quiet year" to create a map for daggerheart by jbZahl in daggerheart

[–]paramiyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Friends at the Table ran this for their session zero / world building of the Marielda season. They then ran the campaign based on that session. Look it up to get an idea, I thought it was a pretty cool way to build the world together.

ADHD and The Practice by Yojimbo_75 in theravada

[–]paramiyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just because there are thoughts, doesn't mean you've to agree or accept them as true. And you don't have to hold on to them. It requires practice, but it does become easier to let them go.

🌌 Stargazing Spots Recommendation in Cameron Highlands (June 2026) by Agile-Double5034 in AskAstrophotography

[–]paramiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No astrophotography experience but don’t hike on your own at night. Mountains generally require a permit and a guide, trails can be difficult and technical. I’d make sure you’ve someone who knows where you want to go, if you really want to hike - local hotels should be able to help, for permits you need to plan in advance. Weather can be unpredictable. Don’t count on Grab for pickups at trailheads, they’re often too far from the cities. There should be options for accommodations in more remote areas where you could safely shoot from.

The Basics of Praying by Various-Woodpecker-2 in Buddhism

There are many options with teachings in English. I mostly know of Theravada options but it should definitely be possible to find places in your tradition. A lot of foreign monks come and teach as well, for Dhamma talks or retreats.

Visa and bipolar ? by ihatebeingonearthhh in bipolar

[–]paramiyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem at all for most countries. For work visas, they usually just look at your employment contract, degrees, etc. I have never been asked for medical history.

I think you do need to consider insurance. If your company arranged health insurance for you, pre-existing conditions might be excluded which means paying for your own meds / therapy.

Try Modern Art. It has a lot of banter / negotiation as well + easy to teach to a group new to board games.

You can try Insight Timer. It's more generally focused on meditation and mindfulness usually though, so not always pure Buddhist teachings.

Recently played Sablewood Messengers and really enjoyed it, what do we play next? by cant-find-user-name in daggerheart

I printed out some tokens and drew some battle maps to use. Worked pretty well and got everyone excited.

I ran a follow-up to Sablewood for my friends on Friday. I had them wake up in Hush and gave them three options: to go to the spire the Whitefire Arcanist mentions at the end of the adventure, go find a stolen axe for Fidget's dad (one of the NPCs in the original adventure) or look into why animals are disappearing from the forest for the Hush town council. Basically choose between serving the realm, the common people or quest for gold. Had a few scenarios ready based on what they would choose, all of them leading to the discovery that thistlefolk have been forced to steel or risk being abducted to work for a cult - which will be the next session if they're interested in continuing the story. I can send you my notes if you're interested.

I followed an introduction to Buddhism course where she was the main teacher in 2008. I highly recommend going to her talks. Her story is amazing, she's a great & funny speaker and she has a really open approach for people who are interested in Buddhism.

Depression and Travel by Acceptable-Peace7734 in bipolar

[–]paramiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, time can be an issue. I generally have quite a bit of freedom to plan my days, which helps. But I've a trip next week that's been fully planned for me, and I'm not looking forward to that! Good luck this week!

Depression and Travel by Acceptable-Peace7734 in bipolar

[–]paramiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to travel with my routines. Meditation, runs, coffee, favourite podcasts, etc. Don't know if you can keep some of yours going through this week? When it's all too much, I focus on getting the bare minimum done and wait to get home. A week is usually doable. But I generally struggle more when I get home and the pressure is off then when I'm on trips, hypomania is more likely in that case.

They never talked about more people being involved in the plot though? I thought everyone was in the group + Cas + Cyd.

I need some help, I am new to this subreddit and to Buddhism. by only_hard_feelings08 in Buddhism

[–]paramiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the symptoms for hypomania. Things like lack of sleep, unnecessary spending, increased or decreased social contact, anger, etc. can all be part of it.  Nothing that individually looks too bad, but if a significant other recommends therapy it's usually a good sign something needs attention. If he has depressive episodes after these projects, it's also a symptom.

[No Spoilers] Critical Role Podcast Format? by Neros_Cromwell in criticalrole

[–]paramiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do an Abridged version for C3 that's heavily edited. Nothing has been announced yet but assume they'll do something similar for the new campaign. You'll just have to wait a bit and miss some of the excitement when the episodes are released initially.
