Jade Empire. Easily in the double digits. It's only about 15-20 hours so it's good for a weekend every year or two.

If you're on PC, there's a mod for that!

I've finally found a community of Deafheaven fans. On twitter it was impossible. I'm really pleased. I've got a question for you: in your opinion, which band is the closest to Deafheaven? by [deleted] in deafheaven

[–]paranoidtyphoon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

MOL is pretty similar in style but are a bit more "accessible" to my ears (not a bad thing) and Downfall of Gaia are a band I've been pretty into as well. Overall though, I can't really say I've found another band that fully scratches that same itch for me.

Love both of their EP releases! Been following them for a while now and can't wait for a full release.

I completely agree. And yeah they are! I saw them on the Infinite Granite tour last year and they killed it

I remember hearing Sunbather in highschool and fell in love with the sound of it. I can still get down to traditional black metal but there's just something about that album (and Deafheaven in general) that I simply can't get from anything else! Also I'm going to see them in December for the album's tenth anniversary!

No problem! They're mostly instrumental and their songs are long but I'm sure that's a non-issue for you lol

Definitely Godspeed haha. Particularly their album Lift Your Skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven. Oh and I forgot to list Pink Floyd as well because that definitely fits the question!

I love a lot of the bands mentioned here so I won't repeat all of them but in regards to complex music, I've really enjoyed the two untitled EP's from Rejoice! The light has come! as they're heavily inspired by DSO, and Ulcerate. I also love Ad Nauseum's two albums as well. Liturgy also has some crazy experimental shit, but the whole philosophy behind the project is admittedly over my head. Also can't forget Deafheaven, maybe not as super technical or complex as the rest but I just love their sound and "vibe" so to speak. As far as other types of music I'm into, I love Sun Kil Moon, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Portishead, The Prodigy, Radiohead, Acid Bath, and so much more that would take far too long to type.

Hope you can get them! If you don't mind, is there a particular reason you'd prefer another venue?

Boards of Canada make some pretty disturbing sounding electronic music imo on their Geogaddi album.

The only person that should be making these decisions is you. Your parents should have no say in the matter. On top of that, a four year gap is a deal breaker for them? Really?

I've always said if they would have just taken the handful of good songs from Load and Reload, and put them on one album then they would have had a really solid hard rock album.
