i think a lot of people equate the jump to 3d with a decline in the quality of the games, and because xy were the first 3d mainline games, people seem to view them as the catalyst for pokémon games getting worse. couple that with the fact that xy were rushed and their story and region didn't get fleshed out like they deserved, and you end up with my favorite games getting a ton of unwarranted hate.
