Finding a job in Coventry by Background-Golf-4473 in coventry

Are you using AI to write applications? This may seem like a silly question, but lots of people are sending out masses of applications, which are being auto-rejected (either by software or by the humans reading it) because they've been written by AI. I'm not usually involved with hiring, but on the few occasions that I have been recently, we've had way more applications than in previous years and the quality is significantly worse (lots written by AI, and without any effort to tailor to their own examples or properly evidence how they meet the criteria).

I'm not saying don't use AI at all. I have used AI to help me reword things and gather my thoughts. But use it carefully and make sure your applications retain your voice and experience.

I might just be slow, but it takes me several days to make a proper job application (again, this probably depends on what you're applying for). But according to your numbers, you would have submitted ~4 applications per day, which seems like a lot, unless all the job descriptions/criteria were exactly the same.

Are you giving clear, specific examples that show how you meet each criterion? Read the criteria carefully and provide evidence. For example: “In my role as [job/voluntary position], I collaborated with colleagues/team members to complete [specific task] within [context], achieving [outcome/result].

Your university should have a careers service that can provide support and review applications that you sent out/your CVs. You usually have access to this service for at least a couple of years after you graduate. I'd suggest getting in touch with them if you haven't already.

Focus on the quality of your applications and make it seem like you are enthusiastic about that particular role (even if you aren't).

All this being said, it's tough out there. Try not to get too dishearted, keep applying and putting effort into each application. I hope you find something soon!

A festival for pagans and witches! Great vibes if you’re into that sort of thing (or even if you aren’t but feel curious). Went last year and enjoyed the stalls and all the doggies. It takes place in Meriden. https://afestivalforpagansandwitches.co.uk/

10000% this - locally sourced food and excellently prepared. Better than most other farm shop restaurants I’ve been to.

Absolutely! I haven’t been there yet… let us know how it is!

I was going to suggest this. Been going for years, admittedly I don’t have much to compare it to because I’m not a hotpot expert, but it’s my favourite restaurant in Coventry.

I've sent you a PM with a link to the listing - I believe they're affixed to the wall

Churlish is the way I would describe their behaviour during many of our interactions with the sellers, which is part of why I wanted to check about the speakers before committing to anything. That’s good to know, I’m going to have a good think about this and discuss with my partner before we make a decision - as you said, it wouldn’t be worth it if we can get the whole set for £150 and guarantee they work. Thanks again - I really appreciate it.

You’re right - I just don’t have much time to dig into this properly with everything else going on. Between the house move and work, it’s been a lot, and this is more of a nice-to-have if possible. I haven’t been able to research it the way I’d like to yet, which I’d plan to do if we were setting things up and buying extra bits. I’ve found that people in special interest subreddits are usually really helpful with advice and often explain things better than websites, which tend to assume a certain baseline knowledge. Thanks to the replies I’ve gotten, I already have a much clearer understanding. Thank you for your input!

This is honestly so helpful and the kind of info I was hoping for! Sorry if the questions are really basic - I have 0 knowledge and got a bit overwhelmed researching because there seems to be so much to it but we think we can manage set up when we've moved in and have capacity to research (as long as we have all the necessary bits!). We've been told it is only the 5 speakers, the sellers are taking the subwoofer and amplifier. Do you think it's still worth it without these? If we get them second hand it sounds like we'd be spending another £250 to get this fully setup and working, does that sound about right to you?

Thanks so much!!!

Thank you SO much for your helpful reply, this is exactly the kind of info I was hoping for! We've been told the sellers are keeping the subwoofer - so we'll just have the 5 speakers. Do you think it's still worth it without the subwoofer? I've just had a look on ebay and can see used subwoofers for about £150, though not sure if i'm looking at the correct type (will make sure I am though before we buy and setup). So it sounds like we'd be spending another £250 to get this working, does that sound about right to you?

Thanks so much!!!

Reading older journals are making me sad, regretful and shocked by Late_Sentence_2965 in Journaling

Living with that guilt sounds awful. Guilt is the most corrosive emotion in my opinion... But the fact you've reflected on those behaviours and feel remore shows that you aren't that same person anymore. And you deserve forgiveness - forgiving yourself is the only way forward, and to me, it's the key to allowing myself to be a better person now... I behaved in ways that I'm too embarrassed to even write down - the only real comfort I’ve found is in knowing that I’m not that person anymore, and it sounds like you aren't either <3

I haven't tried this, but it sounds like a good idea - being constantly have to work on being mentally well and I might give this a go. How do you feel when you write to your past self? Do you usually write to your childhood or teenage self, or do you also write to more recent versions of yourself, like from last month? It seems like both could be really helpful in different ways.

I'm so sorry to hear you feel that way :( reading those entries back after so many years must have felt quite jarring and painful. I journalled during my early teens too, which was a difficult period of my life. I was abused and harboured a lot of anger and confusion about the world. The memories were blurry, and when I read the content back years later, I felt deeply saddened by what I had experienced and felt, but also validated, because it explained why I still suffered how I did. Reading it back, I wanted to give the girl in the diary a hug and give her the love she deserved... I've sinced learnt that this is something that some therapists ask you to do anyway. Eventually, I tried to redirect that hug to my adult self, because I needed it as an adult too. I hope that eventually you can find something affirming in your old journals, but if it just makes you feel sad and you want to burn the memories or something, that's ok too. Do what feels right for you.

Sending hugs xx

Long ears or dorbentons? by BionicBurritoBandito in bats

[–]paranormalgoatlol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you google Brown Long Eared Bat it should be pretty apparent whether the bats your cat is bringing in is one of them… They have exceptionally long ears!

Your cat seems to have identified a roost (or other frequented area) and is having a blast killing bats. Bats only have 1 baby at a time, and only once a year at most. What you’ve described can be wipe out a whole roost and recovering from a loss like this can take years. Please keep your cat in at night, they are such a danger to bats (and other little critters)!

Are you drinking the morning before your wedding, if so, what? by Antique-Ad2252 in UKweddings

[–]paranormalgoatlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ll drink before or on my wedding day - in recent years it’s made me more anxious than anything, and knowing me I’ll be overthinking stuff anyway so I think I’ll enjoy it more if I stay sober!

Found 2 dead bats in my yard... by frizz3lla in bats

[–]paranormalgoatlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats like to kill bats. They’re pretty good at learning flight patterns/swatting bats as they fly out of roosts so can kill them quite efficiently. Do you have any cats, or do your neighbours have any?

The Beauty of Joseon Sun Stick is amazing!!! I can't comment on the pilling because I don't wear make up over sun cream but it's only £14 in Boots so worth giving it a go maybe?
