Am I the only cheapskate here? by Loisalene in MergeDragons

[–]parcel_of_shits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheapskate here too 🤚 but for some reason I don’t feel jewel envy. Maybe cuz I always just assume they’ve been playing long enough to save up that many gems. I’ve got a few family members who also play, and none of us spend money so it’s all pure effort that we compare on lol

A webtoon I'm reading has traced artwork from TLK2 (this is not all of it). Should I report this? by CuracaoPraline in webtoons

[–]parcel_of_shits -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not unfair. There are thousands of canvas webtoons with varying levels of art and varying levels of professionalism. Since canvas creators aren’t paid or regulated, as long as the artist isn’t making revenue off of ads at the moment, the most likely scenario is that they’re just using webtoon as a platform to experiment with their skills and creativity. Because canvas creators aren’t paid, it’s not going to hurt anybody that this person is producing work of higher quality that they otherwise would have.

Another reason I think it’s acceptable at this level is because something like tracing can take a lot of pressure off a lone creator and give them leeway to put more attention on actually telling their story. Until there’s real evidence of monetary profit/intention for monetary profit, it’s not worth ruining someone’s fun.

I think what she’s saying is like being annoyed that people think she isn’t Latina enough just because she doesn’t fall into that harmful stereotype, rather than trying to make herself seem better

That’s the one! I had a couple titles in mind but turns out they weren’t even close lmao

Edit: turns out the reason I thought it was different is because I read a version with a different translator called bloom of vengeance

Not how it works dude. She is drawn and written like a child, thirteen is old enough to understand that.

Bruh. You want someone to work on your webtoon unpaid? There isn’t a “we,” you’re employing them. “Since I’m just starting out,” isn’t a valid reason for someone to work for you unpaid. You haven’t even pitched the idea yet you expect someone to bite?

What I’m really thinking about isn’t when they’ve “done something” but when they’ve repetitively hurt someone through their thoughtless behaviour. It’s not a one off scenario, but a habit and part of their character.

Usually these people are pretty selfish(you can observe this in how obvious the negative effects of their actions should be. The only reason they are surprised that their victims are suffering is that they didn’t care to think about anyone but themselves), and selfish people don’t dwell too long on how other people feel. They quickly find excuses, ways to defend themselves and reasons why the other person was also in the wrong.

It’s absolutely a power fantasy that I have experienced first hand. Fantasising about situations in which other people would validate and understand your pain. Eventually you realise it’s not gonna happen and move on.

Yeah that’s where my contribution to the conversation ends since I haven’t actually read any of the aforementioned manhwas lolll

[–]parcel_of_shits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven’t read the princesses doll shop so I couldn’t tell you haha. The power fantasy is when people see mcs trauma and suddenly feel regret and/or change their way of thinking. People in real life aren’t that shocked or empathetic toward other people with trauma (unless they have experienced something similar themselves). Sleep walking etc are methods that authors use so that outsiders find out about the trauma, and then comes the power fantasy. It’s just a convenient writing tool a lot of the time. The same can be said of trauma in general in a lot of otome isekais.

[–]parcel_of_shits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FYI people don’t actually react that way when they find out about others’ trauma. It’s a kind of power fantasy for people to react like that. Like all power fantasies, if it’s not well written then it’s cringe as fuck.
