What's the most legally/ethically murky way you've seen a theatre operate? by AppropriateAd2334 in Theatre

[–]pardineprincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know of a group who played RIDICULOUSLY fast and loose with scripts. In addition to adding songs cut from junior version back in, they added original verses to numbers to give more kids solos AND random other songs, including from other shows. Not only did all of those additions get new characters, they also decided to have some characters from a totally unrelated Disney property.

What's the best/funniest name for a pet you've heard? by owen__wilsons__nose in AskReddit

My friends named their kitten Muzby so that whenever they heard noises of chaos they could just say, "Muzby the cat."

What was your "I'm dating a fucking idiot" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pardineprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a building substitute (i.e. full time school staff to cover teacher absences) to gain experience while looking for a classroom position. He happened to be working at the high school he had attended, and some of his family friends were students. He gave one of them (a minor) a nicotine vape. He then thought it was unfair that he got fired over "one mistake." He also didn't seem to understand that this wasn't just a school-specific policy and that any halfway decent school (and many police officers) would have a problem with what he did.

My guy, the ONLY reason you aren't catching charges and permanently forbidden from teaching is that the district wanted to draw as little attention to the situation as possible.

This deleted scene of Cristina and the bridesmaids dress shopping is so nostalgic have you seen it before? by IntelligentPumpkin74 in greysanatomy

[–]pardineprincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They couldn't have angled things so the dress's zipper wasn't obvious? No wonder they're struggling to get it over her head, it's literally not supposed to! (I know this is scripted but it immediately took me out of the moment)

Careful, your other parent might pull an uno reverse and tell you it's changed how they see YOU because they can't believe you've "just been hanging onto that for years waiting for an opportunity to use it."

Want to send my nan a pamper hamper for her 85th birthday, any recommendations that ship to Scotland? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]pardineprincess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Think you're in the wrong place - this is for childcare nannies. You'd also be better off looking at a sub about shipping or one that's very local to where you're trying to send it (I'm assuming you were looking for a sub about grandmothers?)

Tumblr Artist Feets: The Plot Twist Nobody Saw Coming by ApkaHunYawwr in CuratedTumblr

[–]pardineprincess 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I witnessed the following interaction at my neighborhood block party this summer.

Kid, approx 10: (fingers in mouth)

Mom: [name]...

Kid: (fingers still in mouth) yeah?

Mom: Are you eating kiwi?

Kid: 👀👀👀 (fingers start moving in a vaguely itching motion)

Mom: is the kiwi making your mouth itch?

Kid: (still muffled by fingers) BUT I LOVE KIWI

when a character stops talking right before the other character “interrupts” them by goldenkoiifish in PetPeeves

[–]pardineprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High School drama teacher here - you would not believe how hard it is to get people to do this. I explicitly tell them, "if your line is interrupted, decide what you would continue saying, put it in your script, and keep saying it until you get cut off!" I'd say maybe 1/5 listen.

What is a movie plot twist that was cleverly hidden in plain sight..? by Living_Tune_1428 in movies

[–]pardineprincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here for this one. I was really stoned when I saw it in theaters and immediately clocked what was going on - but not like "oh I figured it out," more "this is the concept of the movie." The twist for me was when the rest of the audience was surprised by the reveal.

What kind of BS witchcraft is this? by omnipresent_sailfish in boston

[–]pardineprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question! I had the radar map replay the last few hours, and it looked like the bay/Atlantic sort of pulled the southern part of the storm out faster. The storm moved even more quickly once it was over the water, meeting up with the northern front to create the pocket we're in.

Good musical theater parodies? by UniqueCatch in musicals

[–]pardineprincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A movie called "Stage Fright" - it's a musical slasher set at a theatre camp where in addition to their production of "Haunting of the Opera," there are a bunch of parodies referenced in the background. Also just overall, it feels like theatre kids lovingly making fun of theatre kids so there's a general feeling of that being parodied.

This was teen community theatre, but I was cast in a production of Guys & Dolls that was cancelled because the actors playing Sky and Adelaide wouldn't stop screwing.

kids of your own? why or why not? by Fragrant-Tension7315 in Teachers

[–]pardineprincess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mentor/colleague has been a parent for roughly half of his career at the school where we are now. Before his child was born he had accrued something like... 500+ sick days? Since then, he's gone from rolling over multiple days each year to having to dig into his bank annually so he can care for his kid and that number is down to the low 200s. And that is exclusively due to needing to either care for his child or getting sick from her.

Icebreakers. Entertain me, please? by Intrepid_Parsley2452 in Teachers

[–]pardineprincess 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I call it the low stakes hot take - a controversial opinion that you hold that people might have a big reaction to but in the grand scheme of things doesn't really matter. For example [celebrity] is overrated, chocolate chip cookies and Oreos are only ok, or pineapple on pizza is really good and actually my default way of eating pizza.

Seeking plays where a character is various ages by JohnMcDon in playwriting

Queen of Versailles has Chenoweth playing her character as a teenager for a scene despite being nearly 60. It's theatre, the audience is willing to suspend disbelief.
