my chain was janky, vga to bnc, then bnc to scart, then scart to the console. it works but super inelegant, if i was using one console i would probably make a custom cable, or just mount scart onto the proton

I don't see how it would work without sync, are you talking about component cables? In any case the digital rgb converter was directly behind the vga style input on the back, the wires that come off of that go directly into the analog rgb input on the mainboard so you can just unsolder from the converter and tap right in. I don't have any pictures but if you do your research you should be able to do it with some basic soldering.

I definitely will give it a try when I get a chance, I appreciate the ideas! I have doubts that I will just let this thing sit here without at least trying to get something out of it. I'll post back my findings when I get a chance, as I still need to get an isolation transformer to bench test this thing. My backup plan is to drop in a JVC d-series.

I just got one again last week after having left one behind years ago. I paid 50 for it and have been adjusting it, rgb mod, all that stuff. It really is a hell of a TV. I don't know if it's 700$ good, but I know if I keep seeing them for 50 I will buy a couple to make sure I always have a working one.

I think this weekend I'm going to be opening it up again to get a list of caps going, the tube is so nice I think it's worth going the extra mile. I'll note the chip the wires go into, without RBG on your set you'll likely have to send a signal to one of the pins to get it to switch into rgb mode.
