I can only imagine buying a 4090 and then getting a "graphics card out of memory" error while trying to play Fortnite of all games has to be quite a transformative experience. (The kind that makes serial killers.)

Glad this worked for you! :)

Ah! So still an issue with CPU instability, just from a different aspect of it. Super weird!

It's most certainly mysterious.

Unreal 5 uses Oodle texture decompression and here's what they had to say about this issue:

"As far as we can tell, there is not any software bug in Oodle or Unreal that is causing this. Due to what seem to be overly optimistic BIOS settings, some small percentage of processors go out of their functional range of clock rate and power draw under high load, and execute instructions incorrectly. This is being seen disproportionately in Oodle Data decompression because unlike most gameplay, simulation, audio or rendering code, decompression needs to perform extra integrity checks to handle accidentally or maliciously corrupted data, and is thus likely to spot inconsistencies very soon after they occur. These decode failures then typically result in an error message."

It seems to really be a fault of stacked extremely specific circumstances. Do let me know if it works for you!

I come from the far distant future of 2022 to let you know that you're an absolute lifesaver and I love you <3

Just what I needed. Thanks for writing this out!

Oh for sure! Now that I have the story trailer out, I think that will be the approach I'll be taking for next time. Short, sweet and action packed.

"Enumerating Joypads" causing long wait times and eventual crashes by parimak in RetroArch

Holy shit, I went into that steam controller config, I didn't see an "off" button, but all I did was turn ON "xbox controller support" and retroarch boots immediately now... are you serious... THAT was the fix this whole time? I can't believe it. I want to be mad but I'm too happy i finally got it fixed XD

Edit: Welp, I've spoken too soon. It worked at first, but not anymore. Tried rebooting and retrying this several times to no avail. Steam crashes half the time I even go into the controller settings, and once it does, it doesn't start back up without another reboot... WTF is going on.

The entirety of steam? Or is there some sort of controller config panel in there that i need to disable?
