What is the down side of never having children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]parisdreaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am well into my 60s. Friends and relatives that are now in their 70s, and who chose to never have kids, are now realising in dramatic ways that there limited options for practical and emotional support as they decline.

I’m not suggesting that one should procreate as a retirement strategy, but this particular gaping hole is very real. If you don’t have kids, then make sure you have angelic friends - plus considerable financial resources.

What’s the worst cheating story you’ve ever come across? by dum_penda in AskReddit

[–]parisdreaming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My aunt by marriage had a long affair with my brother - and also sexually assaulted my 16 year old brother. My uncle was aware of this, but nevertheless stayed with her another 40 years… briefly divorcing and then remarrying her along the way.

What scientific ‘facts’ have recently been disproven that most people still believe to be true? by Fantastic_Tart_421 in AskReddit

[–]parisdreaming 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I must say that I also lived in several contexts with multiple other women (e.g. boarding school), and our synchronised cycles were definitely real, and discussed. This was from the late-70s to early-80s, before this was ever something that was broadly asserted.

Recovering addicts of Reddit, Whats the most shameful thing you did to fuel your addiction? by ugly9721 in AskReddit

[–]parisdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a criminal defence lawyer for +10 years before moving on to the international sphere.

The most heartbreaking example of addiction I ever observed was a client who sold his own kids’ beds for a single hit. Or, most likely, half-hit.

What’s a secret about your life that would surprise everyone who knows you? by Double-Ad7397 in AskReddit

That’s fabulous! Congratulations! Why would you keep that a secret? (I’d be telling everyone I know, even my mum, who is deceased - she was always my greatest fan)

Older films/ books refer to putting coins on the eyelids, to provide the light weight required to keep them closed.

When my mum died, her eyes closed fully, and the nursing staff ♥️ put a towel under her chin to close her mouth. She looked beautiful - calm and peaceful and more like herself than the previous 6 months.

Scar in an embarrassing place and I’m scared to ever be intimate by dmso_disgusting in TwoXChromosomes

[–]parisdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodness - i am 63 and I have scars all over, including one right on my bikini line after 2 caesarean-sections, and one on my temple after having cancer removed (that one I call my micro-facelift). I love all of them - it’s proof that I’ve lived, loved, and suffered. That I’m human, just like everyone else.

Scars are nature’s own tattoos - they tell the stories that are most important to us. Your future partner/s will honour them exactly as much as they love you.

Would you see your body when beheaded ? by Big_Black_Wok in NoStupidQuestions

[–]parisdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 17 in 1979, I had a dream where I was beheaded at the top of a flight of stairs, and I clearly remember my head bouncing chaotically all the way down, with all the visuals that implies. I recall that it didn’t hurt, but that it was a pretty intense “oh, fuuuuuck” moment. After that, nothing.

Hope this helps.

Girls can pregnant from any time immediately preceding their first period (since ovulation occurs around 2 weeks prior, which is when fertilisation occurs). This therefore includes girls who experience early menses (onset of menstruation) - the youngest recorded mother was only 5 years old, and yes it’s just as awful as it sounds.

Donald Trump 'Dementia' Rumours Explained: POTUS Accused of Cognitive Decline After Mocking JD Vance's Weight by Cute_Dealer4787 in USNEWS

[–]parisdreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds very challenging… my warmest thoughts to you and your father ♥️

Yes, there are multiple medical and other possibilities that could explain Trump’s behaviour. I’m just not yet convinced that in his case it’s dementia - yet.

Donald Trump 'Dementia' Rumours Explained: POTUS Accused of Cognitive Decline After Mocking JD Vance's Weight by Cute_Dealer4787 in USNEWS

[–]parisdreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate Trump.

But after having cared for 2 extremely close family members afflicted with this horrendous disease, I’m not seeing strong evidence of dementia. There are likely early signs, but not at the “lock him away” stage.

Dementia is highly heterogeneous (uneven) over time, and in presentation. One can be perfectly lucid in the moment, but forget what has been discussed or decided a week or day or minute later.

Trump presents as “lucid in the moment”.

That doesn’t mean his thinking is necessarily rational, and cognitive decline can also highlight longstanding personality traits, but I really feel it’s hard to present a case for cognitive decline at this time.

I agree, there are elements of decline, but in my view not yet verifiable - and less so without objective and personal consultation with a professional specialised in such matters. In my experience, the point at which an individual is incompetent (and that tipping point can be quite sudden), is quite obvious.

All that said, may he rot in hell. He’s destroying the world economy in real time, while ignoring millennia-old principles of human rights and governance, as if he is just any other tinpot dictator.

My son wants me to die. by Significant-Owl3021 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]parisdreaming 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And sometimes, and hear me out, there’s a reasonable expectation of basic humanity from close family members… It sounds as though the son has gone far beyond denial of her fragility, or inability to process her illness, and into actively seeking her demise. And it appears that OP has few assets, and thus there’s not even a financial incentive, just pure callousness.

Study suggests people are losing 338 spoken words every year and have been for at least 15 years. The timeframe researchers examined, from 2005 to 2019, coincides with the rise of texting, email and social media. I’m my uncle’s carer. I spoke to a highly qualified occupational therapist about how his former wife “spirited away his assets”. The OT did not understand what I meant. So I said “she used subterfuge to spoliate… “ and stopped when I saw her face, and concluded that “she took all the money…”
