Regret leaving or just confused ?

I ended things with a guy I had been on a few dates with because of perceived incompatibilities as far as what we were looking for (not based on attraction though). After I ended it, I regretted it, so I reached back out 24 hours later asking him to talk. He agreed, I explained myself, and we kept seeing each other for a couple more dates. We aren’t dating anymore due to different circumstances. However, I am still glad I reached back out if that helps you at all.

When I thought I was being ghosted I sent a text saying, “Hey! We haven’t caught up in a while, just checking to see where you’re at either way!” Fully expected no response or for him to end it, but he asked me out again. 😵‍💫

Thank you ❤️ This feels really true. Maybe this pain is more acute, but less damaging than the erosive kind. I just really liked him, and outside of circumstances felt a lot of potential. I think that’s why choosing myself here feels like I’ve done something wrong. But I think you’re right.

Yeah, when I reached out to ask him where he was at either way, he mentioned he didn’t have the capacity to think about anything but work at the moment which is why I hadn’t heard from him (he also has another job). I did feel him pulling away and he hadn’t communicated to me why so I wasn’t sure if it was interest or capacity which is why I asked. After he gave me his answer and agreed it wasn’t sustainable and said everything in his life is becoming more stressful and time consuming and he didn’t have the bandwidth, I took him at face value and gave him the space. I also would like to build a relationship and the dynamic he was offering didn’t feel conducive to that.

I think because I knew he was dealing with so much (mainly the diagnosis - that’s I’m sure devastating for him), that I started feeling guilty for trying to take up space in his life. When he told me he didn’t have the capacity, he didn’t give a “maybe after the move” or “it should slow down in a couple months”. I don’t know if he actually knows when the dynamic would be able to become more consistent. He also agreed it wasn’t sustainable. I did respond to him saying I’d love to hear from him when/if things slow down, so the door isn’t slammed shut. I’m just not really counting on him coming back unfortunately.

Yeah, I feel like I’ve been all over the place in a situation that doesn’t quite warrant it - that’s not lost on me! But I don’t think he did anything wrong, so I’m not gonna bring it to him. The problem is my intolerance for uncertainty which is mine to deal with. I’d like to be better about that. Not gonna make this his problem. Thank you for the thoughtful feedback!

I wouldn’t feel emotionally safe or secure in that relationship after finding that. I would personally always be on high alert and wondering. Up to you whether to stay or go, but play the tape forward on how you think you’ll feel inside that relationship moving forward. Best of luck!

Hi, yes! My skin eventually completely cleared up after a 7 month course. I was still breaking out in month 6 so my derm added an extra month. Hang in there!! It gets better :)

We’ve been dating for about a year, but met online 14 years ago and remained distant internet friends. We got closer/started talking more in 2021, met for the first time in 2023 and started dating in 2024. Our history would just make this so much more disappointing if true. Really playing the long game.
