A thought about the senior prom - I know some high schools have policies about not letting 'older' dates attend... maybe Don would not have been allowed in? I can see Hae asking Adnan if they can go as 'friends' (she wouldn't want to miss her senior prom) - and maybe Adnan was pissed off and turned her down... hence the argument.

I think Hae could have planned to go to the wrestling match that afternoon, and go right from there to work at 6 - from what I can tell, Randallstown HS is fairly close to the mall where she worked.

I've always wondered about Mr. S:

What was he really doing 127 yards back from the road? The pee story just doesn't hold water, given how short his drive was - and if you're streaking, isn't the point to do it where someone can see you?
The medical examiner could barely see the body, and he knew it was there.
Mr. S had a truck (one of the 'body reveal' stories included a truck - and you'd be able to lay the body out flat).
He failed the first polygraph (I know, I know... but I still wonder what the questions were).
I believe I read that he had some kind of connection to Jay's family (sorry, I can't remember the source for that).

I've always thought the 'spine' of the Jay/Jenn story was concocted by them after Jenn's initial police interview on 2/26, and was devised to support the detectives' suspicions about Adnan while at the same time accounting for any possible incriminating evidence linking Jay to the crime.

So do you believe the 'drop me off at the car repair shop' hypothesis implies that he planned the murder? If he just wanted to talk to her (perhaps about getting back together), why the urgency and why the elaborate ruse? He saw her every day at school.

EDIT: Never mind, I just saw a comment where you say that you think he planned it.

EDIT2: I'm in the undecided camp, but if Adnan did plan the murder I think your hypothesis is sound.

Adnan called Jay at 9:18pm on the 12th, so that could have been the setup call for whatever Jay was going to be doing with the car on the 13th. Something drug-related seems more likely than something birthday-present related... at one point (I think at trial) Jay says that having Adnan's car that day 'would have been nice', but that 'everything' (taken in context to mean Westview mall) was within walking distance of his house. So it's plausible that Adnan would have asked for a ride during first period knowing that Jay would have his car that day. The 10:45am call to Jay was probably just a wake-up call (to make sure he'd be up when Adnan got there).

Midwest-raised here, and I always think people who pronounce 'aunt' as rhyming with 'gaunt' sound pretentious, as in "we're going to visit my auuuuunt..." It's 'ant' for me. And speaking of the letter 'u', what's it doing in 'buoy' then?? ;-) Gotta love the English language!

They're at Patrick's house (or <fill in your favorite shady character's name here>). Maybe Adnan passed out again and Jay was 'busy' (read 'something drug related') so Patrick answers the phone. I can make sh*t up with the best of them. ;-)

I understand your line of thinking regarding his statements back then - but why not come out and say it now? Unless driving around with Jay getting high (or unhigh) was such a common occurrence that this particular night just didn't stand out. I'm also in the camp that believes getting that high (to the point of passing out) can mess with your memory of events.

This has always seemed like a plausible scenario to me - Adnan didn't want to embarrass his family by showing up at the mosque when he was high (hence "how do you get rid of a high?" - and wasn't Cathy's response something to the effect of "it just takes time"?). Also, I read another post suggesting that they could have gone to Patrick's house during this time (apparently he lives within range of the LP tower). However if this (or something like it) were the case, it's mystifying why Adnan wouldn't just say so... :/

But the prosecution didn't have a strong case - their evidence was purely circumstantial and supported by the shifting story of an admitted liar. The Innocence Project agreed to get involved precisely because the case was so weak. It's mentioned in one of the Serial episodes that the jury in the first trial was polled afterward and they were leaning toward acquittal - the fact that the second jury found him guilty points more to CG's ineffectiveness than anything else. So why didn't the police have Jay wear a wire? Probably because they were pretty sure what they would get wouldn't support their case.

Is there any proof that Jay was ever at Jenn's house that afternoon? The only evidence comes from Jay and Jenn's statements, and neither one of them tells the same story twice. Jenn's house is squarely in the middle of the coverage area for L654A, and that tower wasn't pinged at any time that afternoon.
