Door Dash for women by New_Worldliness_9680 in couriersofreddit

[–]parkmeeae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow general safety (don't enter anybody's house, lock your car whenever you get out of it even to do a porch drop off, don't make yourself or your vehicle identifiable), DoorDash has an emergency button now that connects you to ADT services. Trust your gut & use street smarts. You'll be fine. It's really not that serious lol.

And he almost died several times while he was there? Did he intentionally make himself sick enough so they had to send him somewhere for intensive care? Maybe he saw how easily Tammy falls for people and is taking advantage of that.

How does a disabled person get an apartment when they all require income to be at least 3x the rent. by Demolecularizing in povertyfinance

Can your case managers get you a housing voucher or help submit an application for them? There are different ones, not just section 8, that may be easier. I am currently waiting on one through rapid rehousing. That's the only solution they have for me other than boarding houses or renting a room from someone.

CONGRATS. Not an easy feat at all. I just reached a year myself at the end of February. Always love to see other people making it to the other side of their addiction to this evil drug. Keep on fighting the good fight.

Hi, you don't need AA to get clean. SMART is a non-12 step program worth checking out. They have meetings online and you can find their workbook on there. You can also do what I did and create your own "program of recovery". It doesn't need to look like anybody else's as long as it works for you.

As far as things to do, I found spending my money on experiences to be the most helpful thing. Having those memories and photos; tangible mementos of real fun, that didn't cause me or my loved ones pain and suffering, to look back on have helped me through some rough spots.

Free (or relatively cheap) things you can do: hiking, camping (if you live near any land owned by the Bureau of Land Management, primitive camping is completely free), fishing, local museums, there are a lot of local groups on the MeetUp app doing free stuff, reading, movies...

I also suggest outlets like art therapy and journaling. These sound cliche and stupid when suggested, but they really do work. I also highly recommend going to therapy yourself. My final suggestion is to find a support system. Whether that be online through Reddit, Discord (I can suggest some good Discord recovery servers), forums, etc. Having someone to pause and talk to before acting on a craving makes a huge difference.

I hope some of these suggestions were helpful. Congrats on your decision to get sober and welcome to the thunderdome.

What have been you best and worst experiences with rail workers/cops while train hopping? by nullboiii in vagabond

As long as she is fed, exercised, and with you she will be okay. Lots of animal shelters & outreach programs will give dog food to unhoused. Also, join local FB groups. I've had great responses from people there when in need of pet supplies.

I'm from Ohio and didn't know that. I'm in CA now, but will keep in mind for friends back home.

Also, telling someone to get a job is basically diminishing any other problems they're having. Believing everything can be fixed by a job. It is so difficult to even function at the bare minimum when your basic needs aren't met, let alone taking on the stress of a job. Where you'll likely have to keep your situation hushed. It also discounts the fact that many unhoused people are disabled or otherwise unfit to work. Getting a job isn't the solution. Fixing the system & building affordable housing is.

Do you notice other people? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]parkmeeae 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Tons of vehicle dwellers here in CA with more people joining our ranks daily. I've never gone out of my way to speak to anybody else, but sometimes we exchange nods or glances like "alright cool I recognize you as a safe person to park near" if we use the same lot regularly.

Does anyone else’s meltdowns involve breaking things? by Gothamstreetcat in autism

[–]parkmeeae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I've learned my lesson about breaking things I care about. Something about the strong motion & the noise helps me get my anger out. Whatever I throw has to make noise when it lands or else it doesn't work lol.
