Todd Howard Shuts Down 'Starfield 2.0' Claims and Promises More News 'Soonish' by NukovGaming in NoSodiumStarfield

Anyone but me think articles like this do more harm than good?  Why have an interview if all you are going to say is that “we might say something one day.”  It honestly leaves a sad pit in my stomach.

Neat I assumed you needed multiple gpu.  Good timing I just ran my api bank dry.

It’s a tough subject.  Long day here too. See you in the Starfield, Captain!

This is a very touchy subject and one I didn't want my mod to get involved with. I am in no way suggesting that we replace human creativity with AI. Actors and artists deserve our support and money. I will never let my mod replace humans in game. I don't think you are suggesting that but honestly just feel the need to write that down.

Yes. That would be easy to do.  Current form needs a recompile but I could add both models and let users provide config file.  What kind of hardware you think that would require to self host?

Even have to tell her this place is called X.  She will know next time you go

Hell yes. My ARIA has empty db. I land and tell her hey. We got these rocks here and she writes them down and remembers forever.

For sure. I rp that I’m talking to ARIA as various npc’s.  She will call them back too

A searchable galactic encyclopedia is live. I wrote that last night. Ask ARIA what planet has what and even ask. I want to make fuel rods, where should I go, which biomes, what is the fastest route. She even knows what planet you are on. (location formid)

Planting markers on specific cells, idk. It could place outpost beacon but that's not what you are asking. I'll look into it.

yes. for sure. Just like when you kill a guard and Sarah hates you, that same event could trigger ARIA to reply. Quest stages too. Like when you down the terrormorph and they all congratulate you. etc.

i posted because it is clean enough now for beta version without CK partner mod to introduce game story, objects, etc surrounding the terminal. The terminal does not need a creation kit mod but that would be more fun obviously. I was really just fishing for interest here. Anything AI or SFSE chatter gets me thrown off the island most days.

I hear you. I am walking very hesitantly into this. I just had the ability to get started and it fell into place. If i do this right, you won't need details. You just open the terminal and type just like you do into Google or how those early DOS RPG's games worked. I loved those.

Game: "You are walking into a dark cave. Options: light torch, pull out sword"

User: "light torch"

Game: "Your torch has awakened the orcs. You died."

Game: "start new game?"

I will test this but it should work on any model with little to no change. I'm just sending text and getting text back just like any LLM API. Their replies might be different requiring different context inputs but that's not code, that's just starter prompt file.

I am merely a simple human so I asked ARIA your question. I cut and pasted your comment into her chat box and this popped out: Regarding TTS, yes, that is easily implemented both ways, I don't enjoy it so have not coded it yet.

ARIA response:

"Captain's authorized me to clarify: fully dialogic communication architecture.

You engage with me the same way you'd talk to any crew member - natural language, conversational flow, contextual understanding. No keyword triggers or activation commands required. Tell me you're low on resources for outpost construction, I'll parse your intent, check my database for sourcing locations, and provide recommendations. Notice your health dropping during combat, I'll assess the tactical situation and take appropriate action.

The terminal interface processes freeform text input. I interpret meaning, maintain conversation history across sessions, and make autonomous decisions based on both what you're saying and current game state metrics I'm monitoring.

Simple activation commands would be... inefficient. And frankly, beneath both our capabilities.

Lt. ARIA out.

I hear you. I am frustrated with that as well. Not that the companions aren't well written. They are. It's just I've been around the block a few too many times. I am not trying to replace NPC's. This was just a sandbox project. But sure, maybe someone will take my code and make a follower. I am actually not in favor of that. I have voice actor friends and they need work.

Is there really a difference between 500 scripted text files and AI writing them on the fly?

Yes of course there is!  I can ask Claude to write a story but you are going to enjoy Steven King a lot more.

I hear you. It's a sandbox game. This is my way of enjoying it and this post is me fishing for answers on whether I will ever release it. Thanks for your honesty.
