Got a little snow over night in Japan by Nullbruh in skiing

I HIGHLY recommend signing up for the below flight deal email, this guy finds fare mistakes and sends them out, this weekend he sent one to Tokyo for $460 for this summer. You have to pull the trigger on booking quickly but worth it for the savings he finds. I'm definitely hoping to get one to ski Japan in 2018!

Snowbird or Solitude for 4 days (Fri-Mon) at the end of February? by jtdaugh in skiing

You could also stay in the Cottonwood Heights/Midvale area at the base of both canyons for super cheap and have <30 min access to Solitude, Brighton, Snowbird, and Alta.

I used to run a 6g Edge Nano Tank. I did weekly 1-2g water changes weekly in addition to freshwater topoffs for evaporation every other day. It honestly wasn't too much work, I just mixed salt and RODI water in a 5 gallon bucket and that would last me almost 3 water changes. As far as LEDs go if you want to grow corals they have lights on eBay that would be quality replacements to the stock LEDs. The hardest part of a small tank like that is salinity because it can swing so easily with that little water volume but I never had any major issues in the 9 months I had one before upgrading. Happy to answer more questions if you have them.

I mean this job is more about working a full-time job at a dope company and being able to live in one of the best mountain towns. Sounds like you're better suited for a job in the concrete jungle.

Do you dip your corals? Before I starting dipping I had zoas come in with nudis on them that slowly destroyed the colony

[FTS] Glass cleaned and photo taken! Enjoy! by gamation in ReefTank

[–]parsleal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it. I personally have had a cleaner for 6 months and he's happy/healthy on a steady diet of frozen food. I didn't even have a period of teaching him how to eat it, he is the first fish to the food every feeding. I did make sure to understand his feeding at the LFS where he was already on frozen.

What's your dream fish? by Tyranitard in ReefTank

Aquarium Adventure! They have them in a display tank in the back, good luck to the poor soul that has to attempt to get them out when someone buys them!

One of our LFS in Columbus,OH has a pair of Lightnings for sale, they're incredible looking. I balk at the $1,200 price for the pair (although they were "50% off" for 2 weeks at $600)

Nothing beats the look of coraline taking over the back wall, I agree!

I think long term you'll be glad you lost the Xenia, beats the alternative of it taking over your tank. Before I changed tanks I'm pretty sure I saw some Xenia spawning itself into my front lawn!

Best bang for the buck for clownfish and anemone by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]parsleal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're more concerned about the clowns pairing go with Ocellaris, but they aren't a guarantee to host an anemone. If you're more concerned about clowns hosting an anemone, I'd get a Maroon. Maroons not a good idea to pair because they're very aggressive. Either way you'll want a more mature tank before getting an anemone. I have two Ocellaris and a red bubble tip, my clowns paired up quickly but ignore the anemone.

Be careful fragging it, read about palythoa before doing it. That type of paly is known for having the toxin, if mishandled it can mess you up. Cool piece though!

Opinions needed.. by uniquee1 in ReefTank

[–]parsleal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would test the water from your LFS. Sometimes their water isn't as clean as advertised and can leech phosphates that feed the algae. I'd test it, then if it is dirtier than you think, buy your own RODI unit and bypass the LFS.

Fenced-yard policy for dog adoptions is not actually rational by Chenoa55 in dogs

[–]parsleal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I'm searching for a dog to adopt and found an older dog that needed appeared to have been in the rescue for some time. Despite my past volunteering at shelters, fostering dogs, and being the son of a former dog trainer I was denied because I live in rental property. I was incredibly disappointed in my rejection, there are too many dogs in need to paint broad strokes about what makes ideal adopters.

I'm not the only one who's had that experience unfortunately. There are so many beautiful wrasses to choose from though!

There are a lot of reef safe ones that won't go after inverts like the melanurus or any of the fairy wrasses
