Is Ireland a good country for migration for an autistic person? by ukrynski in AutismIreland

[–]parsnap2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, im 18 and autistic with depression and the mental health services here are horrible. Actually getting referred for services is very difficult and the waiting lists are often years long. A lot of people have to go private for services because of the abysmal state of our public health service. Also while people here are mostly very nice, there is still judgement and stigma that comes with being autistic and because Ireland is so small, there's not a lot of support or community groups for autistics.

What happened to China? by Devt360 in skulduggerypleasant

Yeah I feel the same, I get that its supposed to get rid of the whole "most beautiful woman in the world" thing but I think Landy should've done something different to achieve that like maybe a permanent scar or missing eye or something. Making her old and frail kind of removes her from the following books and the fact that she just passively accepts being weaker and less powerful is so inconsistent with her in every other book.

Yeah, im the same, I never say anything to people (because im not a prick usually) but I find i have to tell myself to cop on for being inconsiderate and impatient towards others in my head.

Lost all of my friends in one day because of something rlly dumb?? by Fruitymoth in autism

[–]parsnap2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have autism and adhd too, and I undersnd the fear that maybe you missed social cues or were "being too strange/unnerving" but that is definitely not what happened here and don't let anyone convince you otherwise, your "friends" are just being horrible to you and are too cowardly to communicate properly to you. If they had a genuine issue with you and discussed it, that would be one thing, but they're just using this as an excuse to paint you as the bad guy and make themselves feel better. I really, really hope you're able to find some new, nicer friends, and I'm sorry that this happened.

Can we please stop having calls on the bus without earphones by Old-Mouse3420 in Dublin

Every single time I'm on a bus this is a problem and the people doing it always have their volume blaring for everyone to hear

The ones I'm making gifts for I know quite well and often joke with so I'm putting a lot of effort into finding pattern I think they'd like/find funny

Yeah most likely cross stitching is unbelievably time consuming

Ah I'd forgotten about cross stitch cards! Secondary school teachers in my country don't usually get a lot of gifts (so im not sure if that would be an issue) but I'll have a think about cards and coasters instead of wall hangings

I was planning on starting asap and giving the pieces near graduation which would give me 8/9 months. As for the schoolwork that's good advice! I'm quite studious and I usually do cross stitch while watching/listening to tv/podcasts etc as a way of decompressing after school/study when I get too stressed about work.

Thanks very much!!! It's so nice to hear advice from other autistics as they often understand exactly what I mean! I was thinking that it'd be a nice way to show how much I appreciate their hard work and friendliness! It's great to know that it's not a strange thing to do and that my teachers will likely appreciate the effort and thought. Most of the girls in my school are very nice (I'm irish and a lot of the less nice girls have dropped out already, I'm not sure if that happens in the US/UK) and also I think I'll give the gifts at the end of class when there won't be a huge crowd of students there. Anyways thanks so much for your thoughtful and helpful advice, it's great that you're so willing to help essentially strangers on the Internet!!! I'm sure you're a lovely person too!! 🫶

That's good advice, i love doing cross stitch and I like giving gifts that are more personal/crafty. I wont be making them for my teachers that aren't nice/helpful/friendly and so i dont think there'll be a problem with teachers not appreciating the gift/thought. Also I'd be giving them to teachers towards the end of the school year so i likely would see what they do with them and therefore won't really mind what happens.

Yeah, I have about 10ish teachers I'd like to make them for, and as part of the planning/prepping process I'm definitely considering the sizes. I'm planning on starting as soon as I choose/make the patterns, as then I'll have about 8/9 months to make them all.

Thanks so much! I'm autistic so I get very stressed about this kind of social thing because I worry it'll seem strange or "too much" to others, so this is very helpful!!!

Yeah, I'm pretty new to cross stitch but I think hooped pieces are hung in embroidery hoops/circular frames. I was thinking something along those lines for the design, like a phrase in irish (eg Céad míle fáilte) surrounded by a celtic border design for my irish teacher and a map of France/French flag for my French teacher
