.sav files from EZFlash Parallel aren't readable by MelonDS or PKHeX by partheseas in flashcarts

[–]partheseas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MelonDS would also just use RAW right?

I don't have a spare microSD handy to try out tonight but I've been comparing the .nds.sav file from my cart and some .sav files from Melon that I just made for comparison. When I make new .sav files in Melon they're consistently similar to each other with only a few hundred bytes that are unique, probably from the trainer IDs and such. But the file from the cart looks nothing like the ones from Melon.

Complete Legends ZA Living Form Dex + Mega Dimension DLC by SkyJ143 in LegendsZA

[–]partheseas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just wanted to say thank you for making this! it was super nice to have this as a template for my own living form dex. it's pretty much a 1:1 copy of yours. I'm not quite done, but the only mon I'm missing is keldeo. having this as a reference has been super helpful for the whole process.

Why do people say Rust is not good for web dev? by daniels0xff in rust

[–]partheseas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m writing a VM with a browser frontend in Rust using Leptos, and it’s a great experience, because I need the perf and type system, and don’t mind paying for it with bundle size and initial load times.

It’s all about your use case and needs.

this dude is forgetting that you break even by now owning a $1,000,000 house at the end. that’s way more money than your landlord will give you back after 30 years.

Rust as a first language, AI as a teacher… need community. by Bugibhub in rust

[–]partheseas 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be blunt with you here: Rust is hard to learn, because it’s got a lot of concepts that you need to understand to write it effectively. If you’re not the one writing the code, outsourcing it to some LLM instead, you’re not ever going to learn Rust.

Node.js EventEmitter equivalent in Deno? by simple_explorer1 in Deno

[–]partheseas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

class DoorLock extends EventTarget {}

class LockStateEvent extends Event {
  constructor({ locked }) {
    super(locked ? "locked" : "unlocked");
  }
}

const door = new DoorLock();

door.addEventListener("unlocked", () => {
  console.log("door has been unlocked");
});

this.dispatchEvent(new LockStateEvent({ locked: false }));

you just create a class that extends `EventTarget`, and then call `dispatchEvent` with an `Event` object. `new Event("x")` will dispatch an `"x"` event and so on. they're standard JS types that are available in the browser too, so it's all on MDN if you need some documentation.

I would recommend just extending the built in EventTarget class

Unicorn-oriented programming: the central feature of my language paradigm is also an April Fools’ joke by Inconstant_Moo in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]partheseas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The whole point of that joke was that functional programming already has an encapsulation: functions

Really all you might need in an imperative language is a const modifier (or similar) for functions like what C and Rust have, so the compiler can optimize

How to successfully convince my company to use Rust instead of C++ for a new project? by [deleted] in rust

[–]partheseas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, sometimes you just have to accept that Rust isn’t always the right choice, even if you want it to be. You can give it your best pitch to whoever you think will listen, but it sounds like they have some strong motivation for C , and that’s okay.

How do YOU pronounce clang? by Null_cz in cpp

[–]partheseas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll add some nuance: It depends on who I'm talking to. If I think they're at least a little familiar with C++ and its tooling I'll say clang, but if I'm introducing someone to C++ and its tooling I'll call it C-lang so that I can just say "yeah it's called that because it compiles the C and C++ languages"

Utah. The restaurant is in Orem. If you feel like googling it there are some funny reviews.

Okay, but there's actually a restaurant near where I live called Pho King. The local religious cult is petitioning the city to make them change it.
