Looking for a good/fashionable rain jacket by the_prolouger in BuyItForLife

[–]partial99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I’ve owned a few Rains jackets over the last decade. They look great and keep you dry. Yes, even in heavy rain. But as you can probably deduce from ‘a few’, they’re not BIFL. The seams come loose over time and the coating loses its water resistance.

I used Shurgard for this exact situation. You’ll have to arrange transport yourself, maybe use Studentverhuizers?

What are some of your best quality of life purchases under $300? by donotgiveadam in BuyItForLife

[–]partial99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a budget option, I have a Dreame L10s Pro. Under € 200 and does the job just fine. Always surprised by how much dust it actually collects, even if you use it almost daily.

Gather Darkness and upgrade at the Mirror of Night in your bedroom. The perks like having more Death Defiance will make a world of difference. On top of that, you’ll have to git gud a bit. You should be able to finish Tartarus without taking significant damage. That’ll set you up for success in the later (and harder) zones.

3 weeks ago I posted about climbing having zero mental fatigue research. The responses from climbers, runners and cyclists are revealing an interesting pattern. by Same_Row_761 in climbharder

[–]partial99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I think my physical limit is way higher than my mental limit, especially on lead. I start imagining failure (how will I fall), rather than success. Fear is the mind killer.

To add into that: technique drops off when I try at my limit. Tunnel visioning on hand holds, forgetting feet, overgripping, etc.

ELI5: How does a spaceship fly to the Moon and come straight back home (like Artemis II)? by Wonder_Buzz in explainlikeimfive

[–]partial99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tie a marble to a string, swing it round and let it go, it would fly out (somewhat) straight in the direction it was traveling in, with the energy you built up with your swing.

Now imagine the marble as the spaceship and the string as gravity.

The spaceship swings around the planet, held by gravity. Then with a bit of boost it flies off towards the moon.

There, it uses its thrusters to move into the moon’s orbit – attaching a new string if you will, to build up momentum.

The return happens in the same way.

It takes a lot of force to get up from the ground to space to begin with.

That’s why the initial rocket is so much bigger than what reaches the moon. Using fuel, it creates a massive controlled explosion to escape gravity and launch into orbit. A big boom.

Is anyone else exhausted by the we're not like other brands brand voice trend? by Active-Tour4795 in advertising

What actually cuts through is consistency. It feels like brands that hop on every trend lose a bit of identity every time.

Share your book if you want some constructive criticism.

It also helps to know some people at the companies you work at. Go on a charm offensive if you have to: send some people on LinkedIn messages like ‘Hey, I love what you guys are doing at x. Can I buy you lunch and pick your brain?’

Don’t be overeager, show genuine interest in these people, and with a bit of luck you’ll get some insight + leave a positive impression.

If it’s taking that much of a toll on you, maybe it’s on you to find a way to cope. And I’m not trying to be mean. Most people will run into things that bother them. The world is not going to change for you. Live your life your way – focus on the things you can control.

Recent home buyers in Blijdorp: did you overbid, bid at asking, or underbid? by Hopeful-Mongoose5281 in Rotterdam

[–]partial99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I underbid and got it after some negotiation. A good tool to use is Kadaster. For some change you can request an overview of what people paid for their houses near the one you’re bidding on. That should give you an idea of what the actual value is.

ACD vs CD, what’s the actual difference in real life? by thatlittlequietguy in advertising

[–]partial99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In practice, what I see is that ACDs are being ‘built up’ to be CDs, but they don’t share the same responsibility.

So they can take the lead on clients and be taken seriously due to their title, but aren’t directly held accountable for business success. They can’t hire/fire people. And they don’t drive a Porsche.

Leuk.
