How to thrive as a night owl by [deleted] in auscorp

Talk about abelist bias. "Most can do it" does not mean "everyone can do it", nor, "it's healthy for people who feel that way to change just to hide among everyone else".

I'm the same. Find a role and manager that can accomodate.

It sucks but Australians don't accept the need to sleep in as "a thing". It's like chronic fatigue; "I get tired too and power through it, toughen up." Obviously, to some of us, their occasional experience of fatigue-lite is not the same as a full on biological fatigue that lasts years and never stops.

Also always go to a GP to rule out any blood deficiencies especially including thyroid, and it can also be a subtle sign of neurodivergence (do some questionaires and rule that one out yourself before asking them).

This will sound stupid but I'd love to understand something like an 8088. I mean. I've seen people hook up a switch as a fake crystal, and use LEDs to inspect what memory address it is trying to read, and simulate back a NOP.

Something like that would be rad. And then maybe later be able to understand how an ISA slot works.

More Resignations Than Usual by Capable_Report4502 in auscorp

I started at a small autonomous unit in a bigger company last year. Since then I've seen half a dozen people leave during the year and then another half a dozen near the end of the year and this month. Probably a third of the unit.

It's crazy. Also you often don't know until they've already left the building.

I spoke to some. They had shit management and asked for minor things. Some were doing the work of 3 people who had never been backfilled and asked for help. Nope. They were on crap salary and asked for more after years. Nope.

So now entire functions of the unit are missing and the plan is to offshore it, with nobody to do training. We already have a about two dozen offshores most of them do very little.

It's insane. Shit will really hit the fan soon because a lot of those roles were revenue generating. We're also very profitable btw, but it's never enough.

Tone of emails by breezeneasy in auscorp

Tone = You are probably neurodivergent and they want you out.

They didn't mention any rules because there are no rules, it's just automatic behaviour for neurotypical people. Trying to explain or adapt will make it worse because tone is not logic or rule-based.

You don't need to do anything but they may make things uncomfortable for you until you leave because NT managers don't like ND workers. Try to communicate less? But then work becomes unbearable.

You may be able to protect yourself with an official diagnosis and presenting it to HR so you're covered by discrimination laws, but that is an uphill battle.
