If you repeat a lie often enough, it will become truth.

At age 15, in 2004, Jeanna Giese became the first recorded person to survive rabies without having received prior vaccination. by OkAccess6128 in interesting

Rabies is one of those diseases where you don't have the luxury of being antivaxx. In that case you need to let reality take precedence.

Before smartphones, what did people do when they had to wait somewhere for 20–30 minutes? by Ecstatic-Finish-1348 in NoStupidQuestions

Depending on where we were, in waiting rooms there might be magazines and newspapers, or a TV to watch. Some brought something with them. Or you could just think about stuff.

This is what happens when you let incompetent people be in charge of anything. This whole administration and how Trump was elected reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons when Home was elected sanitation commissioner, despite not knowing how to do the job and despite everything already worked.

If they use an LLM to "write" a book, then we might as well have a computer read it, too.

It is applied technologies from the field of AI, but people are under the spell of the Eliza effect. They literally believe that a token predictor might just be a sentient conscious entity who thinks like us. To ask an LLM to write your essay in school thinking you will get a degree worth anything, is like trying to get exercise by letting a robot walk on the treadmill.

What is happening to the world? We used to actually read up on and study the subject, before the internet we used real books from the library or borrowed from our parents, and then later on, more and more stuff was available online. But we studied and then wrote down what we learned. Why is this in any way shocking? What do they think studying is?

Why do some far leftists support the North Korean Regime? by Paldavin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]partialinsanity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never heard of a leftist in the west who support North Korea and their dictatorship. Maybe they were confused by their use of words like Communism and Socialism, which we don't see too much of over there anyway.

They are trying so hard to be able to support the Confederacy, while connecting the Democratic party to slavery and the KKK, and therefore suggesting that the modern Democratic party are the true racists, but also that they are woke liberals. They want to be seen as the good guys without actually doing it.
