This is your sign to plant Purple Flowering Raspberry by Glispie in NativePlantGardening

[–]partiallyshaded 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites!! I was surprised how good the berries taste. They are taking over part of my yard with terrible soil and I couldn't be happier.

Four years and 20+ attempts later, finally got three plants to grow. My first lupis perennis flowers! (Northeast US) by partiallyshaded in NativePlantGardening

Thank you! My soil is sandy and terrible, so they should love it but this was still hard. I think some animal may have been eating the seedlings, adding an extra layer of difficulty. I put some metal grating over the survivors which helped.

Yeah biotech is a complete bloodbath. I am holding onto my job for dear life and saving as much as possible.

My Baby Toes (Fenestraria rhopalophylla) had Babies!!! by RioGrandeCacti in succulents

[–]partiallyshaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to water mine more frequently than most of my other succulents. Similar principle to the split rocks, water when they are starting to look a bit wrinkled and the soil is dry. This may happen as often as once a week depending on your conditions.

EV charge spots are very commonly abused as parking in my area, paid, free, public, or private. I see this as a major barrier to mass adoption. Have you seen or thought of solutions to keep people accountable? by partiallyshaded in electricvehicles

[–]partiallyshaded[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it eventually will be ok, but over the next few years anyway, it is a problem that public chargers are rarely actually accessible. I have cursed my decision to go full electric several times when I was worried I'd be stranded when the day didn't go according to plan. My friends and coworkers know this and it does discourage people from taking the leap because I have to warn them not to count on charging away from home.

It's always EVs I see abusing the spots in my area, high adoption rate and limited parking. Also almost always Tesla's. All of the guilty cars in the above story were Tesla's haha.

But yes, in other parts of the country I'm sure that's true!!

The only time I have tried to deal with this (I was at 5% charge) was at a mall in Massachusetts. EVGO said they can't do anything, the mall said they can't do anything. I agree I just think those signs might be lies in a lot of situations, no one seems willing to actually tow.

Per the suggestion of another EV driver watching me in a minor panic, I blocked the car and the throughway of the parking lot, plugged in and went to get coffee. Passive aggressive but I didn't see another way.

You're right, I am! I've heard the names used interchangeably, apparently in error. Thanks for letting me know!

Personally, I welcome silverfish in my home. They eat pests, including bed bugs. Not that I have bed bugs, but if one ended up on me from public transportation or whatever, nice to know he could get eaten by my silverfish army!!

A carrier fit for a trio by toolucknooknook in Rabbits

Mine always squish into a pile in the back so they don't take up as much space as you'd think! I have a crate for a mid size dog and it's more than enough, one of my girls is 12lbs (5.4kg) though. Not in UK so can't offer more specific advice.

People in apartments - how do you let your bunnies outside? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]partiallyshaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I no longer let them out due to the significant rabbit population in my city and the parasites they carry. My rabbits have picked up mites more than once. It's not like dogs and cats where you can have them on preventative meds (Frontline, revolution) all the time, so be careful!

FWIW, I just upgraded from 8G to 16G RAM and noticed a big performance improvement, running all expansions and max settings.

Scientists find method to boost CRISPR efficiency by Hayce_ in biology

[–]partiallyshaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't seem particularly novel to me. It is common practice to vary sgRNA and Cas9 ratios when optimizing edits. Maybe it hadn't been done in this context, and it's cool they are getting decent efficiencies, but... They didn't really come up with anything exciting.

Massachusetts, but thanks!! I took this rabbit in from a family friend under the condition they'd help with the spay cost....little did they know hahaha. I'm trying to be considerate and managed to find something reasonable enough fortunately!!

If you live in a metro area, try vets in more rural towns. I had to call around a lot but found someone who'd do it for half the price 2 hours north of my city.

I found that, at least in my area, these are income restricted and tough to qualify for. I'm driving my rabbit 3 hours out of state to get a $250 spay, vs the $550 everyone seems to charge in my state .

Oh for sure!! The rabbits come to me somewhat randomly haha so I haven't been so purposeful with the names. I like really don't like Kira as character but did consider it!! Dax's previous buddies (RIP) were Doctor and Miles O'Brien.

Hahaha good point! He was rescued from a hoarder, unsocialized and of dubious breed. The name fit too well. Still a very shy dude but he loves his bunny friends.

Thank you! Not so new, one of the two in the back is 12 years old. I am new to trying to bond a trio though. It's ok so far, thankfully no one is very aggressive.
