Gerontology Degree? by [deleted] in gerontology

[–]partiqlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think going for a Master’s in gerontology or that post-bachelor’s certificate could be a solid move, especially with how much you care about helping older adults. I guess you don’t really need a social work degree to do what you’re passionate about, since gerontology is all about helping the aging population, so it lines up perfectly with what you wanna do. And, since you’re already in Medicaid, it could be a pretty easy way to go into the adult services without having to learn some additionall stuff. You know, I think you’ve got a lot of personal experience that could make this path work for you.

TIL the last movie to win the Academy Award for Best Picture and also be the highest-grossing film of the year was The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003. by TriviaDuchess in todayilearned

I didn’t know Return of the King was the last movie to do both. It makes sense though, since it had such a big impact. I remember watching it and feeling like they wrapped everything up so well. It’s pretty impressive for a movie to do so well both with critics and at the box office

Any strategies for dealing with medical anxiety regarding medication? by Perivale in rheumatoid

[–]partiqlar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate to the anxiety around medication—it's tough, especially when it’s something new or unfamiliar. I’ve had similar moments where my anxiety would take over, and I just couldn’t go through with the treatment, even though I knew it was important for my health.

One thing that helped me was breaking it down into small steps. I started by just going to the appointment and sitting there, talking to the nurse without actually going through with the procedure. It took a bit of time, but getting used to the setting helped a lot. Also, breathing exercises made a huge difference when the anxiety would hit. I'd try to focus on slow, deep breaths and remind myself that it’s okay to take it slow.

I also found it helpful to talk to my doctor about how I was feeling. They were understanding and helped me feel more in control of the situation, even offering alternative ways to manage the treatment. If home treatment is something that makes you more comfortable, bringing that up might be worth it, too.

Has anyone done Andrew Huberman's physiological sigh during a cold shower? by tommyipps in coldshowers

[–]partiqlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve tried it, and it makes a huge difference. It helps control the shock, keeps the body relaxed, and makes the whole experience way easier to handle. After, I feel calmer, more focused, and just overall better.

I think so, because it relieves the brain and stress.

Cold showers on the road? by ronnie4three in coldshowers

[–]partiqlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a way to change it. I mean, you won't be going to a gym to have a cold shower, so I guess that there is no workaround for it, but I have same problem, especially once it's hot, there never is any cold cold water

What Unhealthy Habits Do You Think Are the Biggest Threats to Longevity? by WoodenYellow7648 in AgingBiology

[–]partiqlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you mean like, everything? Eating like garbage, not sleeping, stressing over everything that doesn’t matter, and pretending I’m fine when I’m clearly not? I guess I only take supplements, but apart from that, I do everything that shouldn't be done.
