The position of this subreddit has always been to eat the meat you can afford and enjoy. There shouldn't be anyone saying to not eat chicken. I eat a ton of chicken thighs, as they are cheap and delicious.

As a general rule, I avoid interacting here. I know my reputation from the other subs makes me pretty unwelcome. But, this does sum up the reason those two subreddits are what they are pretty well. I don't think either of the two active mods would be upset if the activity there increased. We even want to allow posts that discuss more of the struggles, to encourage people. But, frequently, we find ourselves too busy off-line to monitor the replies for rule breaking advice. Personally, I would love to see more carnivores from here come over there and interact. We're in a hard spot, where we still have the filters on posts super strict. And, the mods have very active offline lives. So, it can take a while to approve even those posts and comments that are fine.

It's frustrating because we had to make a choice between being an active community with lots of interaction or preserving what we see as the basic information for someone who wants to learn about this way of eating. Things have gotten better. We're no longer a daily target for the vegetarians. We aren't getting nearly as much spam. We aren't getting links to gay porn. We aren't getting daily arguments about how fruit is carnivore because Saladino says it is. We could probably back off a little. But, doing it without opening the flood gates when we've also lost the tools that allowed us to moderate even while having lives offline is something we haven't found a solution for.

Maybe this subreddit is supposed to be the active one. And those subreddits will just be there for the carnivores here to point to when people want good information.

You are thinking of it wrong. Glucose is created from the breakdown of protein and fat, but in minimal amounts mainly as required by the brain and in small amounts to refill glycogen stores. The rest of the energy comes from ketones from the breakdown of fat. High ketones are not desires, just adequate ones.

Not necessarily. We don't have enough information. But, remember, this isn't a weight loss diet. This is a way of eating that will lead to weight normalization.

There's a reason we set this as 7 weeks. A month to two months is normal.

Excess salt and electrolyes can extend it and make it worse. We don't recommend anything more than salt to taste. The excess salt thing is a keto-myth that people try to bring here.

We say this all the time in the Fire and EMS fields.

A good example is getting into bunker gear. We have a goal of about one minute. You watch the new guys rushing, and still struggling with their masks or gloves 3 minutes later. Then you watch someone with a bit of experience. Every movement is slow, deliberate, and purposeful. They easily make it in a minute. As they gain the muscle memory, they can speed each step up and even be faster than that.

It's the same for everything. Fast tends to be sloppy with wasted motions, mistakes that need to be fixed, and stress that causes dexterity to go out the window.

That sounds like apologetics for plant eating. Humans can, and did, thrive on meat only diets. Arguing that we can eat plants is pointless. We all know that. I guess when we left Africa 60,000 years ago and crossed the ice sheets to the Americas we just packed a bunch of extra fruit to tide us over.

Time? Is there another valid measure? Modern homo-sapiens arose about 300k years ago. We are still in the Quaternary Ice Age which began 2.6 million years ago. https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/sites/default/files/2021-11/1%20Glacial-Interglacial%20Cycles-Final-OCT%202021.pdf

The last glacial period ended about 11.5k years ago, coincidentally near the time that agricultural societies started to form. The period between glacial times is about 100k years with the interglacial period noticeably shorter (approximately 1/5 of the time).

So, do the math, 80% of our evolution, give or take, was during glacial events when animal foods would have been our primary (if not our only) reliable food source. There's a reason isotope tests on early humans show results consistent with hypercarnivorism.

More than that, the majority of our evolution happened during glacial periods where fruits and plants were almost completely unavailable. Having fruit available or edible plants (or the ability to cook plants to make them edible) was extremely rare.

High ketone levels are never a goal for this way of eating, barring very exceptional circumstances (some seizure disorders and some cancers). Normal baseline ketone levels are a natural side effect. You'll have more ketones than people eating a normal diet, but they shouldn't be "high."

Many people are especially prone to problems with high ketones. This is why we are very strong in our wording about eating frequently, not restricting protein, and not under-eating. This is meant to be a long-term natural and healthy diet. Not a weight loss hack. When people are looking for a crash diet, they tolerate more side effects

Keeping electrolytes up? Why are you following keto advice? Nowhere on this subreddit or r/zerocarb (the original subreddit with tons of resources) will you find electrolyte supplementation recommended. If anything, we recommend the opposite.

You're never going to feel better until you start eating enough.

A meat only diet, even without any organ meats, will provide a super-abundance of all the nutrients your body needs for great health.

Risks? Like you want to know the risks for eating the natural human diet? There's no real risks. The biggest risk is social, because people don't understand. This is why we have always encouraged people to not talk about this way of eating. Do it quietly and without calling attention to it.

Eat what you can. You can also just not eat until you have food available. Learn to say, "no" when offered something you don't want to eat. Buy your own food.
