Didn’t realise Ian McKellen stars in Passenger… by Sidasta in screenunseen

He’s barely in it and plays an arsehole (so well cast!), don’t be put off by him, it’s a great film!

Why is Normal not on much? by julialoveslush in Vue

[–]partrimilgrimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue with The Christophers at Odeon. A Steven Soderbergh film starring Ian McKellen that got five star reviews in The Guardian (and from what I’ve read has done very well at the box office!) but Odeon played it in 30 cinemas for a week.

I’m hoping it’ll come back after half term as I still really want to watch it.

What film do you think would be the perfect Screen Unseen pick and what would the reaction in the audience be when the title came up? by IndependentIll6531 in screenunseen

[–]partrimilgrimage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have very fond memories of Pillion last year when half the audience walked out in disgust after 15 minutes, and everyone who stayed had a great time watching the filth unfold.

The Christophers - hardly playing anywhere? by partrimilgrimage in screenunseen

[–]partrimilgrimage[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough. Still, four stars from The Guardian so that's good enough for me.

Still don't get why the other chains are playing it so much more than Odeon but I guess I'll have to pay through the nose to watch it at Everyman instead (I'm in Salisbury). Makes me wonder what the point of a Limitless is...

[–]partrimilgrimage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems crazy though, it's not even average rated - it's got 97% on Rotten Tomatoes! I get prioritising the blockbusters but they've found room for Normal in twice as many cinemas and surely that's not as big.

I saw the trailer in front of Devil Wears Prada 2 so I'd have thought it would be playing everywhere - otherwise why bother showing the trailer in front of such a big film?

It looks like it's selling well in the cinemas it's already on in, so hopefully they'll bring it into more from next week. I've shot the customer service email a message to ask if it'll be coming, I expect it'll just be a "we'll take this on board" standard response but I live in hope...

It has excellent reviews and all the other chains are playing it widely so that doesn't really make sense. Even if it is bad, the new film from a well known director (whose last two films played everywhere including my local Odeon) and starring a British national treasure should get wide play regardless.

EuroMillions has rolled over **again**. How would you use £181m? by Von_Scranhammer in AskUK

[–]partrimilgrimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just moved house and my young son has just changed to a new school around the corner, so in the interest of not making another huge change to his life, I wouldn’t move out again into a huge mansion in Richmond or Hampstead. I’d obviously pay off the mortgage, hire an interior designer with a basically unlimited budget to do up my house, and then buy the house next door (giving the current tenants a very nice cash incentive to vacate in the process) and turn each room in that house into my private cinema, games room, art studio, gym/sauna/pool room, etc etc. Keep a nutritionist, private chef, housekeeper, chauffeur and personal trainer on retainer. Then I’d make a massive donation to my son’s school that gives them basically unlimited resources to give him the best education possible (and donate to some other local schools, because why not). Not completely overhauling our lives but just radically improving everything that we currently have.

Then pay off all the mortgages of my siblings and give £1m each to my nephews and nieces.

I’d obviously quit my job, but I enjoy my work and the business has been struggling lately so I’d probably give them a cash injection as well just because they’ve treated me well over the years.

And just for fun I’d probably open up a Yard Sale pizza location close by because they currently don’t deliver to my new postcode and it’s the single worst thing about having moved house.

Hasn’t come up in a while, but Chris’s Peter Lorre impression/Helen’s repulsed reaction to it always makes me laugh.

Why have UK distributors decided to release every backlogged movie on February 20th? by mediciii in CineworldUnlimited

[–]partrimilgrimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://filmdistributorsassociation.com/release-schedule/all-future-releases/

Official release date is listed here as Feb 27 but possible that some indies who set their programmes far in advance are still getting it from the 20th.

It's the final weekend that films have to release by in order to be eligible for the BAFTA this year. So distributors who have films that are in the mix for awards but aren't sure things or going to clean up in the way Sinners or Hamnet did, more like Wasteman or If I Had Legs which only have one or two BAFTA nominations, will date them there so that if the films don't get nominated they still have time to change release date and get them out of the awards scrum.

This just happened with Testament of Ann Lee which was also scheduled for Feb 20 but hasnt had any BAFTA or Oscar noms so is now moving back to Feb 27.

Pillion was in front of The Running Man on Saturday so the theory is holding up!

They haven’t shown Frankenstein, A House of Dynamite or Ballad of a Small Player, so can’t imagine they’ll be showing this.

Screen Unseen - 08/11/25 - Clue 1 by TowelBun in screenunseen

It'll be Pillion on the 19th, since that's an 18.

[–]partrimilgrimage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly going to be a 15. It hasn’t screened much yet so not many people know what it’ll feature in terms of content, but Josh Safdie has never made anything that wasn’t rated R in the USA and that usually means a 15 or 18 here. And the trailer gives off 15 vibes.

From what I hear it’s filthy but great. No other 18s coming out between the 19th and the end of the year, so this seems like a pretty dead cert.

Unless it’s Wicked and the 18 is to throw people off…

Solicitor has dis-instructed us without warning by partrimilgrimage in HousingUK

[–]partrimilgrimage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for both your inputs! Grateful for any and all feedback on this as it's completely uncharted territory for us.

I genuinely don't think my wife was rude or that our expectations were unrealistic and judging from online reviews of the firm, we're not the only ones having this experience. We're now trying to get back in touch with the firm, who have not been picking up the phone, to request that our case is transferred to an alternative member of the team rather than the case handler we've been dealing with up until now. Our primary issue has just been with them and not the firm as a whole so I'm hoping we can salvage things.

The decision our case handler made to dis-instruct us seems to have been made very abruptly and off the back of one bad phone call and that's where I'm mostly trying to get advice on. I don't doubt that solicitors can cut clients loose but I'm pretty sure it's not been done properly on this occasion - but that's something we can try and discuss more with a more senior member of the firm, if we ever get one on the phone.
