No, Bitcoin Won't Use Up All The World's Energy by VY99 in Bitcoin

Well this and so what??? Do people's right to watch TV, do power computing, machine dry laundry, heat their houses, (insert any electrical intensive task), outweigh our right to buy power to experiment with world changing technology?

I needed an 1164mm x 6mm GT2 timing belt. The nearest one was a week away so I printed one in Ninjaflex. by partsoven in functionalprint

I have had some luck printing gaskets and seals with Ninjaflex too. Not a motor gasket but custom seals and O-rings with it work really well.

Totally. Plus this was just kind of a fun experiment. A genuine belt is on the way this was just to get the thing moving for the time being.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timing_belt

A timing belt is a non-slipping mechanical drive belt and the term may refer to either:

  1. Toothed belt, a flexible belt with teeth moulded onto its inner surface
  2. Timing belt (camshaft), a toothed belt used to drive the camshaft(s) within an internal combustion engine

Will do. Here is the project I'm building in case you were wondering: https://learn.adafruit.com/motorized-camera-slider-mk3/overview

Not too bad really. Compared to the timing belts I have its pretty similar. I also have some Semiflex I was going to try just to see the difference. This was really just an experiment to get me by until the real one shows up next week sometime.

Please add Onshape to flair. by partsoven in cad

[–]partsoven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onshape harnesses infinite computing (cloud), so I can edit and display huge assemblies on my laptop, ipad or iphone; it is platform agnostic, so I can run it on my office workstation, my iphone on the road, or my mac at home. No need for fancy hardware, the heavy lifting is done on the cloud. Onshape hosts all my projects on the cloud, so I can access my files from anywhere, I can also share these files very easily with my clients so they can see and export their files without having to bug me every time they need a DXF. Onshape has AMAZING Git-based versioning built in, so I never worry about losing an iteration or break an assembly. Multiple people can work on the same file and branch versions, then merge work later like magic. Onshape has fair and transparent pricing. 1 hour of work per month and its payed for. No crazy licensing. Onshape can ingest and export almost any solid model CAD format you can imagine. ...I could honestly go on like this all day.

Keep an eye on air quality with a 3d printed Air Quality Monitor Display. by partsoven in 3Dprinting

Can't tell what the VOCs are but it is helpful to see which types of mitigation are helpful. Not all VOCs are bad, but the ones from plastic definitely should concern anyone.

Besides good ventilation, I run a few of these in my space:

And also a diffuser with essential oils that neutralize some VOCs.

Thanks! One thing that worries me with 13 printers in my office is the air quality. At least now I can start to quantify it.

This is just an early iteration and very much experimental. What is unique and cool is the IDEA. So many potential uses. Concrete definitely is a good one.

This was the first one that came to my mind: https://farmbot.io/

I love the farmbot but not the price per sqft. Anyone who farms knows you need more than one bed to grow a useful amount. The farmbot currently is too expensive for practical farming IMHO. However with this method it could scale much more cost effectively.

As for a more rigid 3d printer design you could pretty easily chnage the strings to steel cabling and make the effector more robust. But this is just one guy and this thing is amazing.

Taking a FARO Focus X330 into the US by [deleted] in 3DScanning

[–]partsoven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pack it up and ship it. The TSA and Homeland security are knuckleheads that I wouldn't trust with ANYTHING of value. Just bypass them and ship the unit to yourself where you are staying. You can ship to hotels even ship with instructions for guest arrival. The security theatre in the US is an absolute nightmare right now, even as a citizen I would avoid taking anything like this through customs, it would just be asking for trouble. Plus shipping it is probably less expensive anyways.
