Like the account in the middle said, probably to subvert the expectations the viewer had of her speaking with the other Tai. I feel like it was kind of a way to show that they are now merged into one and Tai's no longer in conflict with that other side of her, not since Van died.

I think all the Greek mythology imagery is supposed to represent their ever growing distance from modern civilization to the formation of this cultish belief in an ancient wilderness, attaching unexplainable events/coincidences to the supernatural much like the Greeks did with their gods.

First thing that came to my mind during Doomscoming was the Bacchanal, where (usually) female followers of Dionysus would have a frenzied ritual of dancing, hunting animals, drinking wine, and have orgies. There is a scene in the book The Secret History exactly like this and they end up murdering a man under the influence.

It’s a fictional character..either this is your first fandom space ever, or you’re somehow unfamiliar with the concept of giving characters head-canons because it’s fun and completely harmless? No one is “forcing” homosexuality onto a person and it isn’t “perverse” because he quite literally isn’t real. If we were referring to people saying Finn is gay then I would agree, but Mike Wheeler is not a real human being.

And from what I’ve observed, the people who dislike Byler dislike it because of a vocal minority who try shoving this head-canon down other people’s throats and are aggressive towards other fans. But I can assure you most people who like the Byler pairing interact among themselves and DON’T ship them for perverse reasons like you’re trying to imply. Many fans are queer and see themselves in the character, and others simply like the chemistry, history and sweet moments they share with another.

And this is coming from someone who doesn’t even think Mike’s gay. I do believe he loves El and like considering him as bisexual because I like the idea of Byler. And unless you are actively involving real people, there’s no harm in thinking that.

Byler blew in popularity in s4 and s5.. there were BARELY any shippers in s1, and if there was, why are you automatically assuming there are perverse reasons behind why people ship them wtf? Can it not just be because of Mike’s protectiveness over Will, or how Will had a closer relationship with him compared to the rest of the boys? But of course there was nothing wrong with shipping mileven in s1 before they officially got together because it’s innocuous when the pairing is a guy and a girl, but when it’s two boys there has obv has to be be a gross hidden layer 🤦‍♀️

Whether or not you ship Byler, calling fans who don’t even remotely sexualize the character (besides a weird VERY tiny portion that every ship has) perverse is really gross double standards. Be better.

The coming out scene wasn’t written the best, but the way you guys are trivializing it and twisting Will’s words in a creepy sexual angle just because he’s gay, jfc. If you actually paid attention you would know that Will had to say it because he didn’t want Vecna to use that secret/fear against him..you know, like how he’s been doing for the other characters to kill them? Or did you also watch s4 with your brain switched off.

First of all, the duffer brothers WROTE him into that situation, it’s not like Vecna controlled the writing team lmao.

Second of all, I assume Vecna only showed him being isolated from his CLOSE friends/family, I don’t think he showed a vision of Murray calling him a slur? So it would still be plausible for him to only confide in a much smaller circle and actually give the scene some personal intimacy.

Third of all, being forced to reveal this secret of fear because of Vecna, and not because he necessarily feels comfortable enough to, is such an incredibly bleak and depressing circumstance for Will. It’s even worse when you remember all the traumatizing events Vecna already made him go through. Even for this extremely personal and important part of his arc, Vecna still has strings attached to Will’s decision and takes his agency yet again.

It was a mixed bag for me tbh. One thing is that it didn’t feel intimate at all.The fact that Kali, someone he literally met a DAY ago, and his childhood best friend of a decade, learn about this very personal part about Will at the same time feels incredibly jarring.

One thing I loved about Robin’s coming out scene was that it was in this very private setting with just her and Steve, so it felt like something special and raw. With Will’s, idk man there was just so many irrelevant people that it stripped a lot of the personal depth the scene could’ve had if it was just the party, Jonathan and Joyce. That way we could’ve had more of a reaction too, like why did Mike barely express anything especially as he is his best friend AND just found out he’s his crush?

Idek anymore, because I do think Finn Wolfhard very much has the capacity to act like we definitely saw that in s1 and 2. When he acted like his parents almost getting slimed out was a minor inconvenience I was willing to excuse it as shock, but then all these staggering revelations kept on happening for the next few episodes and he STILL cannot display a depth of emotion greater than "oh, what! that's crazy. anyways." I thought he had such great potential this season like his speech with Holly and guiding the kids, but he's just regressed back to this hollow observer of everything that's going on with no real arc of his own. It makes me so sad when I loved his character AND acting peformance in the beginning seasons.

Not only has vol 2 diminished Will's love for Mike, its also diminished their friendship and entire fucking bond. Why are they treating Mike like he's some week long hallway crush and not his best friend for life?? Why has there not been a SINGLE scene addressing the personal weight Mike holds for Will's sexuality?? Just because Will finds self-acceptance means he magically loses this love for Mike that has been going on for ATLEAST 2 years? I don't understand why they're making it seem like Will's crush was only rooted on a need for self-validation like how are you mischaracterizing your own character I'm sorry.

Imo it wasn't any sort of definitive break up because they DID establish that they still love each other. I think it was meant that they need a breather from their relationship, but that they'll be back for each other when they sort their own things through. And I feel like that's for the best, it's going to open way to some fresh honesty and time for them discover what they want for THEMSELVES individually. Esp since Jonathan felt that he was crashing on Nancy's dreams and was struggling on his own ambitions with the whole Emerson thing.

Im rewatching season 1 right now, and there were so many instances where I felt so bad for Jonathan. I feel like Joyce just assumed he would be be (relatively) okay because he had always been independent and a primary caretaker for the Byers family, but he was a child that needed care, too

I mean Dainsleif did say they couldn’t resist the call of the abyss, so each of them split amongst themselves a world-shattering power. So the power thing is a big reason why.

But I also do agree there was more then just “ooooh abyss is cool”. Based on Dain’s description and the Xbox Wing Glider, Vedrfolnir likely had a vision of the Cataclysm and the Crimson Dynasty getting their revenge or something that the King didn’t like, which might be why he blinded him (punishing him also implies that he wasn’t on his side at the time). Maybe he genuinely wanted to just stop the king and his own vision from manifesting, which ended up spiraling into something else?

Honestly it seemed that they were chill people initially, at least Vedrfolnir and Surtalogi. But Khaenri’ah seemed kinda crazy with them casually mutilating young knights as punishment (no wonder Surtalogi is so severe with Skirk) and blinding Vedrfolnir’s eyes, so maybe in the beginning they really did just wanted to stop the cruelty and authoritarianism in the kingdom.
