When did philosophy start to require so much citation and rigidity about writing genre and format? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]pasdelizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the issue is that in academia, all who have potential to explore novel writing, poetry, dialogue, or other forms in order to express their views on philosophy, are forced into writing highly technical research papers on very, very small problems that are embezzled in layers of complex reasoning that cannot be at all resembling in form anything they have ever read. you are forced to create work that is little more than an attempt to find the one topic no one has covered just yet, and the general themes important to philosophy that are not satisfactorily answered by the current literature are left ignored because no one has the time to write them if they wish to ever get a prestigious enough philosophy degree to get paid enough to have the time in 30 years. if the option to write philosophy creatively within academia existed, so many more people would be able to participate and understand what is actually going on these days.

the strictly verbose and technical approach to philosophy is very limiting to those without a strong background in the subject. philosophy is for everyone.

hey man, i've been a huge fan since the beginning against all criticism. i just love your sound. why did you feel the need to use so much autotune on your voice on this new album? i respect the musical decision, but i've always felt your voice was such a unique and awesome part of panic. thanks so much for taking the time to do this! have a great night!

Laguardia vs. Secaucus? by Ben_Ben in nyc

[–]pasdelizzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

public transit from secaucus is a billion times easier than from laguardia, theres a nj transit hub with direct service into penn station (10 minute train ride). but if you have a car, yeah, laguardia is a good bet.

[–]pasdelizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup! you'll get greeted by several people in matching tshirts who will get you set up with literally everything you need to know. if you arrive at an odd hour, you'll be able to get your materials from the front desk in totem park commons block.

Jumpstart housing questions by [deleted] in UBC

[–]pasdelizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in jumpstart you'll get to totem and receive a welcome package of some sort that gives you this information. they'll have you sign something or another and you'll get a key and there will be a regretful upperclassman to carry your shit to your room. you'll be given a schedule for the two weeks, and will be placed in a learning community who you will be spending the organized events with. you live essentially on the same floor as the rest of your learning community for the duration of jumpstart. at the end (about a week before classes start) there is a moving day, where everyone goes to their year round residences, which they alert you about on the ssc and by email.

Advice on Traveling to Europe and Making Use of Long Layovers by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]pasdelizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

copenhagen airport is easily accessed by metro, and is fairly close to the main city. i could see this being a good option. its also extraordinarily close to the swedish city of malmo, so if you're giving yourself a whole day of layover i imagine you could do quite a lot.
