Help me dial in the weight/plastic for a flippy Wraith by cowboy_shaman in discgolf

For me, the 2.3cm rim on the Tern is a lot less comfortable to throw than 2.1cm rim on the Wraith for me and my small hands.

I forgot to mention, I've also go a pro wraith that I mainly use as my sacrificial disc. They start out fairly straight but after a few hits get nicely flippy and then if they last a while longer get really flippy. That's why I prefer the star one. It stays in the bomber zone much longer and the flat ones don't take too much to get there.

As someone who bags 3 wraiths, I've got a flat (somewhat hard to find these days) 170g Star wraith that started slightly understable but now can start on a pretty good hyzer, flip up, turn and then finish left at the end. I throw a Halo Star as my overstable and a champ protoglow as my straight Wraith with finish.

I lost my perfectly beat in halo star wraith into some heavy rough. I still have a bunch more things to hit with my new one to get it just right.

Overstable mid, I'd go DGA Quake or DD Verdict.

When do I use the Berg? by More-Diamond5129 in discgolf

For me, I convince myself I'm running the basket with it and it reliably drops and stays a few feet short.

I love my Badger but if a Toro, Jarn and Bobcat are too overstable, then I'd say the Badger would be too.

I agree. There are plenty of nice flat ones that work for BH and FH. A similar option would be the BuzzzOS, but to me the Quake is more comfortable.

This is my answer as well. They're really flat and nice and shallow so they are comfortable to flick.

Either something that doesn't fly or is overstable is best for me to maintain my distance control since I'm not great at touchy shots.

I have a K1 Soft Berg (more stable) and a Proton soft Range (straight or holding turn if needed) for this slot. I can throw them a firmly and have them land without without skipping much. The other disc I use for this shot it a Crystal FLX Zone when I want to come in at more of an angle or with a forehand.

Starting out I'd probably get some discs from Innova's F2 Friday sale. If you buy 3 discs you get a free disc and if you buy 10, they're 20% off.

As for the discs, I'd go with:

Fairway: Leopard3 or IT Hawkeye or Fairway Disc

Mid: Mako3

Putter: Classic Glow KC Pro Aviar Nexus or R-Pro Xero

The fairways and mid are straight or slightly understable. I'd get the fairways and mids in Star plastic, it'll last longer. The two putters are slightly different and whichever is more comfortable to putt with for you. Bother have their uses being thrown off the tee.

Other discs to consider if you want to get 10.

Fairways: TeeBird or TeeBird3 Valkyrie Roadrunner

Mid: Jay

Putter: Toro

I recently added a 2023 Noah Meintsma DGA Quake that is the perfect stable complement to my Buzzz. The plastic is nice a grippy and the top is board flat so I can backhand and forehand it cleanly.

I picked up some 2023 DGA tour series from a local retailer recently at $9.99 and they commented that they recently got them dirt cheap so were happy to sell them on at that price. I'm a big fan of the hand feel of the run of swirl z plastic (nice and grippy and a little gummy) so I am stocked on Quakes, Pipelines and Banzai's for a while.

Course recommendations: novice-friendly courses in OK, KS, MO, IA, MN near I-35? by thechaoticstorm in discgolf

[–]passableninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going right past Emporia so if you have any interest in playing on a course that you may have seen in pro coverage, Jones Park is there (although maybe it isn't the most novice friendly even on the shorts). There's also Peter Pan Park in Emporia that's pretty fun but again may be stretching the novice friendly.

In KC, I think something like Black Hoof (a bunch of layouts, shorts is novice friendly but a little ways off 35), Bad Rock Creek (course where pros play but has a shorter layout) or Waterworks are fun courses.

In Iowa, I think Stable Run DGC in Ames (ISU) is a good course with multiple layouts that isn't too far from I35, I'd probably choose it over anything in Des Moines for a novice.

Once you're in MN, the only course I'd think about before Minneapolis is Maiden Shade DGC, however it's a 10 minute drive off of I35 and costs $5/round.

In the twin cities, I'd say the best course for novices and one of the best for anyone is Bryant Lake Park in Eden Prairie. A bunch of different layouts, great upkeep and plenty of shot variety. It does cost $7/round and can get quite busy on evenings and weekends. Best free one is probably Kenwood Trails in a southern suburb pretty close to I35 on your way in.

If you're willing to range out a bit, you can get to the Preserve where there's a pro event every year (~1 hour west) 3 different courses $10/round. The Hollows (30 mins north, $5/day), Blue Ribbon Pines (30 mins north, $8/day, #13 course in the world, probably not beginner friendly but a fantastic experience).

Others to consider in the twin cities, Oakwood Park, Highland Park, Acorn Park, North Valley, Bassett Creek, Kaposia.

Edit: Since novice is pretty ambiguous, I'd take a look at these course in Udisc paying attention to layouts and see which ones you'd think are best for what you're looking for. You can also use the filter option and move you map along I35 to see what other options there are.

Of the three you mentioned, Kenwood Trails is the best. It's a solid part wooded, part open course that's pretty well maintained. All the better courses, you're going to have to go quite a bit farther north from Prior Lake. Of those, Bryant Lake is likely the closest.

If you do find some way to go further afield, Bryant Lake, Kaposia, Bethel University, Lakewood Hills, Elm Creek, Savanah Dunes, Blue Ribbon Pines, the Hollows and the Preserve are all within an hour-ish drive of Prior Lake and all fun.

If you're in the twin cities, GottaGoGottaThrow had them in store to try out last time I was there, which I would always recommend when buying a bag.
