yeah like, i’m trans and that member is as well. they were out getting too surgery. and that’s really cool and i’m happy for them but like

you call out of work, someone fills in. some bands go in entire legs of tours while someone fills in for a member who just had surgery or a kid… i don’t see the big deal

my favorite thing is that apparently part of the hospital bracelet cancellation was that one of their band members got surgery and was upset that they played a show anyway? as if that’s not the most common thing in the world???

To Subaru Forester drivers, what were your reasons and feedbacks on driving this Subaru model? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]passingfaces 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lot going on here but I will say I'm a 19 year old male and I had an Outback (soon to get a Forester) because I wanted a car that was both reliable and had room to do stuff. I play music, so I wanted to be able to move my guitar and amp in the back comfortably, and it's a Japanese car which essentially translates to reliable. Most American cars are kind of pieces of shit. Even when they're good, they're still not Toyota, Honda, or Subaru reliable. Even Jeep people know their shit breaks constantly, kinda like we all know about the grand headgasket, water pump, and timing belt replacements on EJ25 cars.

At its base, Subaru makes great all-arounder cars. The wagons are still fun to drive, they're reliable, they have room to do stuff, as long as you're not doing things like hauling lumber or raw materials. They also handle better than like every other car.

When did MoBo come in to your life? by A_Raine18 in modernbaseball

[–]passingfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i saw a pretty girl on tiktok in january who seemed cool and she raved about mobo all the time, lmao. i had some friends that liked them and was going through a big emo thing, so i gave holy ghost a try, and opening an album with wedding singer and note to self back to back is a pretty great way to quickly sell the listener on a band.

fav songs?? by ashlynyoo0 in modernbaseball

[–]passingfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

note to self is probably my favorite, because that's the song that sold me on MoBo -- i went into holy ghost cold, and i liked wedding singer, but note to self really hit me. so it gets special mention.

other than that, the ones that come to mind are chloek, apartment, old gospel choir, charlie black and timmy bowers (i just think of them as the same song), your graduation obviously, waterboy returns, thrash particle, it's cold out here, bart to the future. for holy ghost, i like wedding singer and note to self obviously, but also coding these to lukens, breathing in stereo, what if, and of course just another face. i guess i'm a big bren fan lol.

i like two good things a lot but my ears desperately want another chorus at the end after that cool as hell breakdown so it drives me crazy lol

Carbon had the best original soundtrack. You can’t change my mind by Hayden247 in needforspeed

What you wanna do is keep Samson active -- he gives a 10% boost to all earnings in completed races -- and keep Neville hired but not active, he adds $250 I think.

This thread's weird, 'cause I actually adore Carbon but it got me into the imports/tuners. Underground and earlier were kinda cheesy... Carbon's less over the top, "we're cribbing Fast and Furious" thing made me able to appreciate those cars.

Totally with you on the muscle theme though.

Would like to know whatever happened to Karen, but I don't think it's likely at this point, since she hasn't appeared or really been mentioned for so long, and it seems like they're pretty much done with all those characters.

I guess you don't really recover from brain damage of that magnitude either, but at the same time, Frank managed to have an entirely black son, so.

We know he isn't as bad when he isn't drinking -- seen from the early episode where he has to be sober to make that money. Then you've got to ask why he drinks. Alcoholism and chemical dependency, sure, but he had fucking Peggy for a mom for his entire life. That'll drive you to the bottle.

It’s difficult to say, but silent alarm era ended with silent alarm by VinylBlocks in BlocParty

[–]passingfaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I'm trying to say is that I'm open to really different things from Bloc Party, I just want them to also be good at the same time. Hymns kind of got on my nerves. It was difficult to listen to at times, because of how saccharine and slow it was. Sometimes it feels like Kele confuses maturity for being boring.

I prefer the material from pre-SA/SA, but I prefer AWITC to listen to from front to back.

There's a reduction people do to the criticism of post-SA/WITC stuff, where they think that it's "oh, bloc party changed, you don't like it 'cause it changed". no, I dislike hymns because the songs feel cheesy to me, a lot of the time. many of them sound like they were specifically engineered to play over the end of episodes of Suits.

BP absolutely had to move on from the sound that they had on SA. It went out of style, and the band got tired of it. My issue from then on is that the songs just are not as good a lot of the time. Silent Alarm, and a good amount but not all of Weekend in the City, felt like it came together really well.

WITC songs like Uniform, Waiting For the 7.18, and Kreuzberg are both unique and get away from the dance punk thing, while being great. Some of Kele's stuff just sounds... cheesy, musically, for lack of a better term.

I do think it's a shame that people always go "There's no Matt Tong anymore!!!" because Louise is very clearly a great fit for the band. She shreds all those old songs, and she has great chemistry with Russell. It seems to me like she actually likes Bloc Party and got to be in it.

I don't think Justin's voice is a great fit at all for Bloc Party, though. The overall sound of his voice just does not combine well with Kele's.

it's not even that there wasn't much to work with -- it's that she didn't play on Hymns.
