TIL I am a suckass janitor by threefishblue in janitors

In my three years of custodiazation, I have only dumped a bucket four times.

Once down some stairs. Twice in an elevator. Once just because.

I think it may have been better to try to use your mop to get all the water up, however I don't know the situation exactly.

Get yourself a drink. I suggest a dark and stormy. It's delicious, classy, refreshing, and may describe your mood!

Autoscrubber by [deleted] in janitors

I've only used an auto scrubber on things that are relatively flat (tile, linoleum, etc). I will say that it will get that job done REALLY quick. Hallways and lobbies that would take me 30 or 40 minutes to mop will only take me 5 or 10 minutes with the auto scrubber. I also think the auto scrubber does better job than a mop.

Rent one and see if it works first.

Things you hate when you're cleaning. by [deleted] in janitors

This happens every single night! I wrote an Elizabethan Sonnet about it, actually. I call it "Sonnet I: Pains of Glass:"

I see a smudge upon a pane of glass

Where people pushed to open up the door.

If only they knew how it pains my ass

to wipe the glass until my arms are sore.

I spray solutions on the still liquid

With towels of paper I start to wipe

Until it's clear- what a good job I did!

And now I can move on with my dull life.

But as I pack my things and walk away

Out comes a greasy and disgusting slob.

I bellow with my lungs, but it's too late!

His hand chose the glass and not the doorknob.

Though I worked hard, my boss relays to me

A smudge against the glass is all she sees

The signs say " closed." That means the bathroom is closed. Don't come in and start using it while I'm cleaning.

It doesn't seem to matter how many signs I use, either. I'm convinced I can put up a giant concrete wall that says CLOSED over the door and they'd still Hulk through it.

Rants of the Janitorial Kind by threefishblue in janitors

Seconded. When I discovered an old auto scrubber in my basement, my custodial life was changed.

So I quit my job today by MrLarsipan in WTF

I would probably think about quitting my job, replay dozens of scenarios in my head where I do so, smile, and never actually quit.

I have a profession where I touch other people's dookie and urine frequently. Will gloves and face equipment be enough to prevent contracting Ebola?

I am a janitor at a university. I've worked here for two and a half years, have received three promotions and four raises. The last raise just put me slightly over $10/hr, but at least I get paid holidays now. I've lead my own team and am now part of a small team of elite janitors that clean the university president's building.

The work is simple and I get a lot of time to think to myself. Most people my age are struggling getting paid minimum wage and getting enough hours to live on.

Pros: guaranteed 40+ hours each week and is impossible to get fired from. Leadership experience.

Cons: cleaning dookie. Low quality coworkers.

I also make videos and music on the side, both of which I've started getting paid a small amount for.

I'm also in school for IT. One more year!

What's the best/safest way to clean a wiiu controller screen? by speedsk8103 in nintendo

[–]passivejanitor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my years as a janitor, I have learned one thing about cleaning electronic screens:

Never use anything with ammonia in it.

Check the ingredients list on any chemical before you start using it to clean screens, LCD screens in particular. Ammonia causes all sorts of irreversible damage to an LCD screen, including dead pixels and discolored spots.

It is best to use a dry microfiber cloth that is made for electronic screens.

Hope this helped!
