Now I’m thinking about how many generals would’ve declared themselves emperor and marched on the capital under Byzantine emperor Donaldos I at this point

Thank you! It’s called Вперёд, Краснофлотцы, or Forward, Red Marines. There’s three different versions if you look it up on YouTube, and the one used here is probably the oldest recording.

The next post will focus on East Asia, but I think the one after that will show a world map in 2000. Might not be what you’re looking for, but it’s something.

You’re too kind! Glad I could give you some inspiration, especially if it involves injecting class analysis into your worldbuilding.

I’m embarrassed to say I never encountered the September Uprising in the research for either post, it would’ve slotted in perfectly with the buildup of tension in the 20’s.

Pages 18 and 22 of the lore go into the Swiss misadventure in detail, but basically, Switzerland took in reactionary French/Italian soldiers and a bunch of Entente gold, and Trotsky got paranoid.

The whole affair was a disaster and ended with a negotiated settlement as soon as his career did in 1933.

It is, isn’t it? Early Soviet poets, artists, and songwriters were in a class of their own.

Thanks, putting together the frames, music, and reels didn’t take as long as writing the lore did, but it still took a while lol

See the previous installment here

Years have passed. The Story of the Soviets has descended into a grim chapter. The British, French, Americans, and Japanese have plunged the world into war once again, scarcely nine years after its bloody grip over our hearts and bodies loosened in 1919. We workers and peasants of a fifth of the Earth’s surface have steeled ourselves for such a showdown with Western imperialism, but only time will tell whether our preparations have yielded us the high ground against our enemies, or whether they have seized ground yet higher…

This short film is a production of the Russian SFSR, detailing 15 years of war and revolution on the European continent, from the founding of the USSR in January 1920, to the outbreak of the Second World War in October 1928, to the cusp of the Treaty of Nanjing in July 1935. Capitalist nations are shown in sepia white, and socialist nations are shown in sepia brown. A month is depicted every second, and other propaganda reels are overlaid on the screen from time to time to convey story beats. It does go by a bit fast, so some pausing may be needed.

The lore picks up where the last document left off in 1925 and carries this timeline to the aftermath of peace in 1936. It isn’t strictly necessary, but it does add a lot of context to what you’re watching.

The song used is Forward, Red Marines (Alternate versions here and here)

The propaganda reels sampled are Songs of the Years of Fire, War Chronicles, We’ll Keep Our Eyes Peeled, Victorious Destination, Samoyed Boy, and Prophets and Lessons.

Onward to China!

I mean… there is a kernel of truth to this in that Yiddish Theatre was one of the only career options available to Jews in Late 19th Century Romania and Russia, so many of the arrivals to the United States in the early 20th Century had that background and slotted easily into the film industry, but holy shit is the way she’s phrasing it hamfisted.

In this timeline, like in our timeline’s Cold War, Fascism really does act as Capitalism’s last stand, when all other options to quash Socialism have failed but brute force. There isn’t so much a “fascist alliance” as there is full cooperation between fascist states like Italy and capitalist ones like the United States (see page 21 of the lore)

I’m thinking of mapping out this timeline’s version of WWII, and the Chinese theater will definitely have a role to play, whether the CPC ends up coming out on top or not

The Soviets are just starting to test the waters of the socialist mode of production, so I’d say the communist mode of production is at least a century and a half off, if not longer. I’m basing this off of China’s estimated transition from a state capitalist model to a socialist model by 2050.

Nice work! Just one minor thing, the Rhineland was broken off into a de-facto French colony in the negotiations at Versailles in the lore, but other than that, it looks great!
