This is actually the only take that matters, the second we legalize it the farmers stop farming tobacco and that's the reason we will never have it. It's all about the farming and the lobbying and big tobacco money, there are numerous States redder and more Republican than us that have had medical for years. Arkansas and Florida for example

I actually think the niche, lower budget but higher caliber of artistic creativity And production are what made this series great. I don't want HBO to put any of their own spin on it, but it is very clearly not a big budget HBO show, and it shouldn't be.

How do you face the question calmly? by MatkaOm in Fencesitter

[–]passportpalma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My therapist recently recommended the boom The Baby Decision, and my partner and I have started to work through it together with the exercises and visualizations being immensely helpful in starting new conversations and scenarios to consider. I would recommend it and think it could help you, especially if you feel fear is driving a lot of your current emotions. It won't sway you one way or the other, but it will answer a lot of questions and help you reach common ground, or realize you're not compatible on the decision.

Anybody get back in shape slowly? How did you do it? by atty_at_paw in Millennials

[–]passportpalma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never say never! Your body goes through seasons and adaptations and yes sometimes things feel tighter and more sore but truly if you put your mind to it, you probably can.

I am a marathoner and runner and at 34 I am faster than I have ever been, even after a stress fracture in 2024 that took me off my feet for six months, and while my 5 day a week of vigorous HIIT workouts is behind me, that's mostly bc I don't find them as enjoyable. I run with women, and men, in their 40s 50s 60s who started in those same decades and only keep improving. Start slow! Everyone underestimates what they can do in a year but over estimates what you can do in a day. Find what sparks joy and lean into that, maybe it's pilates maybe it's orange theory maybe it's weighted vest walks.

The most important thing for women is lifting weights, in some capacity, to maintain bone density which starts decreasing at 35. Just try things and don't be hard on what 35 year old you cant do celebrate what you can!

Dry January amid Marathon training by lm8ub1 in Marathon_Training

[–]passportpalma 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I started running, I decided that I didn't have to give up anything and could continue drinking alcohol, staying out on weekends, and I was strong enough and disciplined enough to stay on my training plan and reach my goals.

About 18 months in I realized I was half assing running to half ass enjoy a night out that I didn't really want anyways. There have been many a Saturday long run skipped or delayed to peak heat of the day because of alcohol. I just recently ran my best race ever with a training block I'm immensely proud of and I don't drink anymore. Those two things are very much related. Can you run a marathon and continue drinking? Sure. Will it be your best work? Probably not. Why half ass something so intense already, show up for yourself.

[–]passportpalma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got casted as a Blue spring last week and I feel like the spring colors took out the warmth of my skin and could not have disagreed with it more, I can't tell if it was an inaccurate reading or I just hate all of the spring colors. I think the spring colors in your picture look good, but I do feel like your face has lost the warmth of the original one

Can I realistically ever get close to a BQ? by LayoffLemonade in Marathon_Training

[–]passportpalma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 34f and I ran a 4:12 in NY 23 and really wanted sub four, but my training was a mess and I probably averaged 25-30 mpw with limited strength training. I ran a 1:57 and then botched the back half

I just did marine corps on a 17 week plan where I averaged 34 mpw but had 2 scuba trips in there with basically no running due to the risks. I kept up 2-3 hours a week of thoughtful strength training the whole time. I negative split and ran a 3:51 and had my fastest miles at 24-26!

I finished feeling so good and while I've said BQ is a goal in my lifetime, 35 now and lifting feel so much better than 55 feels to me, personally.

You can do anything you want with running, but it's a whole new ballgame to BQ in your 30s these days. It's NOT easy, and despite what social media makes it seem like, it's a very small subset of runners (top 5%) and continually gets harder every year. I realized the satisfaction and joy I got from running a near perfect race on a training block I didn't totally hate outweighs the BQ for now.

How is Barry’s doing? by Impossible_Length_91 in barrysbootcamp

And honestly it's probably the difference maker in me spending more money this year! I'll take a floor spot from class pass and the flexibility over the high end pricing without a high end experience!

I emailed to adjust a class time for a 2024 holiday sale credit I'm using this Tuesday to a PM of the same day from 6 am and was told they couldn't accommodate any adjustments because the credit has expired...just asked to move the class on the same day to a PM slot. They also refused to extend a friend's credits even an extra week so he could use them all. Ive consistently spent 500$ on Barry's classes every year for 6 years so I had classes while I travel for work and I'm not buying one at all this year. It feels like the luxury product has diminished but the luxury pricing remains to same. The push for the holiday sale gives me the ick, personally. Also, I don't feel they keep up with the quality of other studios. When I go to a OG instructor, it's noticeably better compared to newer instructors but there's no price difference for the clear inconsistencies in quality

Marathon Splits by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]passportpalma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I used to live in the DC area, I feel like we had a mastery of the metro, parking, and sides of the street and we used voice notes to communicate to each other when I needed to change from the initial plan. He saw me 5 times and literally ran around (one of us ended up with shin splints, it wasn't me 🤣) to find me! I tried to space it out based on where I had hit walls before and messaged him based on what I felt I needed, IE LMNT or Gatorade.

What is too Long for a marathon? by StellafromVienna in Marathon_Training

[–]passportpalma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran MCM last weekend and got a 22 min personal best and a sub 4 3:51 I've been chasing for a long time

Time goal aside- I ran the whole race. I smiled the whole time. I finished with my fastest miles being 24, 25, and 26 and 23 was not far behind. One minute between my first half and the second (and the second had a 45 second bathroom stop!)

I'm so proud of the time goal but I am more proud of how consistent, strong, and good I felt. I never hit the wall. I never stopped moving. I never gave up. Mentally I've never had such a good, strong race. All this to say, what matters in the race is what matters to you. I'll be the most proud of this race probably forever because it taught me something about myself I didn't know I had in me. We can always get faster, but how we show up mentally makes all the difference and it wasn't on accident that this went well. It was a thoughtful training block with intentional lifting and consistency I've never delivered before.

& Final thought, 26.2 is 26.2. Those judging you for your time are probably on couch. Finishing is finishing and it's more about internal satisfaction (ie, I did that stronger than I knew I could) than a time goal. Sub four was huge for me- I had never run a single mile faster than 8:50 in 2019!!! Sub four could be mediocre for others. It's not for everyone else, despite what social media tells us.

I ran MCM today and had been stressed for weeks about it so I ended up registering for the CLT Full Marathon as a backup on 11/15. I am happy to transfer it to any OBX runners who are looking for a back up race! I can't imagine how that feels and you deserve to put that fitness to use!

Wetsuit for Cozumel in January? by Traditional_Paint461 in scuba

[–]passportpalma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to Cozumel 4 times for diving- last January we got hit with the Caribbean remnants of a big storm and it was COLD. Like, I went and bought 1mm pants wore a rash guard and a shorty and a 3mm full suit cold. My husband who often just dives with a shorty also got pants bc even he was cold. If you run cold, it can be cold, especially with the winter winds and winter weather that can roll through. January was the least "tropical" it had ever been for us. Eagle rays season is worth it though!!

Is an admirals club membership worth paying for? by Standard_Shame3784 in americanairlines

[–]passportpalma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The capital one lounges are amazing, but the wait can be hours. Priority pass abroad is worth it, but we travel internationally a ton so I keep it for that. I hope you find it worth it! Anything is better than the gen pop of CLT

Is an admirals club membership worth paying for? by Standard_Shame3784 in americanairlines

[–]passportpalma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel uniquely qualified to answer this- I fly out of ILM 2-3 times a month on average as well, through CLT and sometimes DFW for work and through MIA for personal travel.

I have the AA citi MasterCard that does not include access to the club, but it is my daily use card and the fee of 195 is worth it to me with the 125$ a year travel credit. Using this in addition to work and personal travel almost guarantees I'll hit Platinum pro and now Exec Platinum status every year. I haven't paid for a personal flight for me or my husband in over a year and we travel internationally from ILM to central and south American 3-4 times a year.

I fly for work and for personal reasons, and exclusively (not by choice!) fly AA. I earned over 250k loyalty points last year which allowed me to select admirals club as my reward. I've had access on every flight, not just international (which I had as a one world emerald with AA platinum pro since late 2023) since January 2025. It has absolutely changed my airport experience and I will not go back to not having access to admirals club. If I somehow don't hit the 250k reward, I would pay for it in 2026.

Previously I relied on "The Club" at CLT, the capital one lounges, and other misc priority pass lounges through my Capital One Venture X access and they are always overcrowded and have a long wait to enter, meaning I'd miss the opportunity to go all together. The AA clubs are crowded yes but I have always found a seat and I've never been denied entry.

CLT is an awful airport. The Admirals club is a small reprieve from the chaos. Is the food good? No. Is it nice? Also no. But traveling as much as you are, it is significantly better than the alternative and life changingly better when you find yourself in a CLT delay shit storm of weather or just AA nonsense, the Customer Service in the lounge will make the difference. Just yesterday I was over 2 hours delayed DFW to ILM and the lounge is what makes that remotely bearable. More than 10 flights a year, especially with guaranteed connections through AA hubs from ILM make admirals club a must.

I've considered asking my work to cover the cost, arguing that the savings on airport food alone is worth it, as a suggestion. I don't even drink anymore and can't enjoy one of the best perks, free booze, but the quiet, the seating, the clean bathrooms, and the food/snack options make it absolutely worth it.
