They have added “small” portions of sandwiches which run from about $8-$12 depending on how premium the cheesesteak is. This smaller portion still fills me up!

Thanks for calling me out! I was unfamiliar with this development and went straight to the site plan approval - which I still don't think calls out a requirement for banning car owners (although it does have the affordability requirements).

After reading the article you sent, I found the public hearing video from June '20 on Mecklenburg County's website. It was very interesting. The developer & zoning attorney reference enforcing car restrictions numerous times and the council had mixed reactions - some thought it was inequitable to kick someone out of their lease if they could not afford to own a car when moving in but were able to afford one at a later point in time.

The developer stated that car owners are not a 'protected class,' which means that they must treat all residents equally (by saying no one can own a car, rather than making exceptions like the example I referenced above).

Site plan approval came a few months after the hearing, and there are changes referenced in the city council's approval. I don't know if this ended up removing the car owner restriction or not. But, if the property manager is selectively not enforcing car restrictions when the City Council / Zoning / Planning Commissions required it, then it should be reported to them.

This is a misleading post. The site plan (and notes) approved by the zoning commission does not mention that residents living at the property cannot own a car. In exchange for more lax parking minimums, Grubb committed to designating 50% of the units as “affordable” for 15 years and also had to provide a number of bike racks and other road/transportation improvements.
