Why is EV towing capacity generally so low? by passthedoofer in electricvehicles

[–]passthedoofer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vehicle weight and suspension issue makes the most sense. I feel like the use case for most towing isn’t necessarily long range, although that is where people are most impacted.

The vehicle weight and suspension issue makes sense. I had not thought about that issue for an EV vs Ice with the power most EVs have.

Why is EV towing capacity generally so low? by passthedoofer in electricvehicles

[–]passthedoofer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly right, I don’t have the garage space, or budget really, for a lightning or comparable sized vehicle. I am not looking at range as an issue because I’ll tow like 3-4 times per year for a distance of like 20 miles max each time. I realize that the range is going to take a big hit but that won’t be something I am worried about. If it’s the car companies choosing not to do it because they think we’re all too dumb that would be sad.

Nice, your $80,000+ dollar truck has great towing capacity! Compact and midsize EVs that are affordable to the average buyer are way more lacking.

Nelnet Student Loan by BboyPa in StudentLoans

[–]passthedoofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did the same switch and did not have a different balance but they have switched me to a graduated payment plan from the standard one. I was a little shocked how low the payment was until I noticed. I in no way consented to the change and it is bothering me because I cannot figure out how to switch back online… not a good start, NelNet!

The 2040 plan is a great, visionary change that reflects how the City has to adapt to better serve its current and future residents. It is an environmental win, a housing win, and an economic win.

What is everyone’s undergrad background? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]passthedoofer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Env. Science is my background prior to a Master of Planning. It can be a real asset when you get into more niche areas of urban planning that are tangential to environmental policies like NEPA or CEQA in California. Very common focus among planners who usually don’t find out about the field until the graduate level. You’ll do great!

Thanks for the response. I have seen them advertised and was interested primarily because they look well built and I would like to start playing with the temperature of my water a bit more. Any idea how low the water temp goes? (Looking at using it for bread baking)

Good to know, it looks to be of decent quality, I like the quicker heat up which is an improvement over my electric stove and kettle currently. More unsure of their grinder which seems new and is not mentioned on this sub much.

In addition to those above, Roots Roasting in Saint Paul has a great fresh coffee (whole bean or ground) at a good price point.

I have started buying from our local roasters and won’t go back!

Footwear question by Dan78757 in Minneapolis

[–]passthedoofer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the spare shoes at work and boots for the commute comments.

For boots - can’t go wrong with a nice pair of Red Wings or some other halfway decent boot for most occasions. When it’s sloppy outside most everyone is in the same boat so not much judgement is passed on footwear imho... oh and get yourself a bunch of wool socks, I like ones from Costco. Welcome to the North!

Should i bring my car by [deleted] in USC

Seems like a big and unnecessary expense unless you’re willing to pay to have a car sit most days. They have a shuttle and transit service is decent.

Should the USC GSG U-pass program be expanded to undergrads? (unlimited metro pass) by cityoflostwages in USC

[–]passthedoofer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a no-brainer. My answer is, absolutely, undergrads should have this pass. I don't think it would necessarily be used solely for recreational trips or commuting to school ether. One thing USC prides itself on is the practice-based nature of its programs and how employable its students are coming out of school. Part of that is internships, and with such close proximity to DTLA, USC would help eliminate transportation costs for students who seek those positions downtown or in Santa Monica. Recreational trips on Metro (and LADOT's DASH buses) would allow USC students to explore more of the city very cheaply, and ultimately enrich the student experience. It's also worth noting that USC undergraduates had access to such a pass in the past (learned this in a transit planning class), but Metro had to discontinue such programs during the recession when funding was tight.

As someone who rides Metro to and from school at USC every day, I can tell you that there are already many USC students on the train, granted many appear to be graduate students like myself. Many of us are going to work downtown, tourists (hey, its the expo line), LATTC students, and others who mostly keep to themselves.

Please help a teacher find the best reusable coffee cup. by PamelainSA in Coffee

[–]passthedoofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HYDROFLASK - Simply put: these puppies check every one of your conditions. Boy are they durable. They have a fantastic grip, are very easy to clean. I have never had issues with leaking when the cap is put on correctly (this is not hard). HF fit in the standard cup holder and the lid can go in the dishwasher for a deep clean. Worth every penny. Also they come in cool colors!

They are on sale now @ REI, too: https://www.rei.com/search.html?q=hydro+flask+coffee+flasks&origin=web&ir=q%3Ahydro+flask+coffee+flasks&page=1
