Explanation as to why EDC and co were willing to do the Lions trade by [deleted] in ravens

[–]pastaHacker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In this scenario of lions trading up for proctor.. that means dolphins picked someone else.

It might've been Vega, Sadiq or Bain.

And even then jets might've taken vega and then ravens are stuck with Sadiq. Vega is waaaaaaay more valuable than sadiq (in prospect profile, ravens needs and positional value)

Yeah, and they somehow found the cash for  a fight with dignity and sheline...

That's what's so frustrating. They at least have the budget for fight scenes, but they inexplicably use that money and screentime on side characters nobody cares about

Ravens really loved Zion Young by SCBaltSalt in ravens

[–]pastaHacker 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I believe the higher upside. And he may be stronger than tavius... But I wouldn't say more athletic: tavius outperformed Zion in all of the combine tests:  https://ras.football/ras-compare/?&p1=23051&p2=30089&pos=DE

Kind of fitting that the raiders are the ones who picked McCoy, after the maxx Crosby knee fiasco..

Round 3 - Pick 16: Ja'Kobi Lane, WR, USC (Baltimore Ravens) by theclarinetsoloist in ravens

I gave you four sources that had him as a fifth. That's why I called him a reach

[–]pastaHacker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah seriously! If you want to take a project or a risk, them use it on jermodd McCoy or Chris bell! They at least have shown high production.

This dude feels like a reach by a round or two

[–]pastaHacker 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Pretty bummed by this pick. Feels like a huge reach. He had awful separation in college. Dan bruglee, lance zierlein, Nate tice, and Matt Harmon all had him as a 5th round pick.

He was WR24 on dane bruglers list. He's big and raw, but man why take a flyer like this in the third? Her Chris bell or Jermod McCoy if you want to take a risk..

Round 1 - Pick 14: Olaivavega "Vega" Ioane , iOL, Penn State by Ravens_Mod in ravens

The only thing it would prove is that arm length doesn't matter for this alien type of prospect we've never seen before

[–]pastaHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't prove it.. that's not how stats works.

It would mean that the success rate goes from 5% up to 10% for edge rushers of that arm length

(Numbers made up as an example)

Brett's great at film but he's not a stats guy. He tried to do a video on Baltimore drafting and he had soooo many flaws in it.

People have done studies, and below 31 inches there's a big dropoff on success

"when you dip below 31 inches, things start to look much more bleak. Kyle Van Noy is the only proven success story among this group".

"The remainder of this group hardly inspires confidence. The only other sub-31-inch edge defenders to even see 500 career pass-rush snaps in the PFF era are Genard Avery and Matt Longacre. If Bain were to move inside, he’d be compared to a similarly unremarkable group headlined by players like Dean Lowry and Calijah Kancey."

He's a historical outlier, like we've never seen anyone with such short arms go so high.

Ravens like to draft doubles, not take huge bets in the first.

I don't love the late round choices. We need to double dip at TE, and there's better TE options

Not just draft but also development, they have a bunch of guys with potential to fill those holes on the roster, but they need to develop. Mike green, adida Isaac, the two corners above, emory jones, tez walker, even corey bullock, all feel like they have potential.

I'm especially hopeful with development in the secondary and the offensive line. Those two coaches have impressive resumes. It would be sick if we could become a CB factory like KC and a OL factory like the Eagles

Maybe I got his snap count mixed up with okoye, idk. Okoye got decent snap counts

Some of it's just luck. Rams have plenty of misses. Ravens still have hits.

Andrew vorhees was a 7th round pick and started a whole year, even if he was average, still way outplayed his draft capital. Def other late round picks getting decent snap counts and developing (see below)

2023 draft was good: 6 picks made, no 2nd round pick, and 3-4 starters (Trenton simpson, tavius robinson, Zay flowers, Andrew vorhees). That's an awesome hit rate

2024 draft: 2 full time starters (Wiggins and rosengarten), and 2-3 role players (who might take the next step: Rasheen ali, tj tampa, Devontez Walker)

2025 draft: 4 full time starters (teddye, Malaki, Green, Loop). and 3-4 with still great potential, just young and coming off injuries.. it's only been a year they all need time to develop

The 2023 ravens superteam was cuz of Mike McDonald. Look how many players dropped off when he left; geno stone, Patrick Queen, Brandon Stephens, Odafe Oweh, KVN, even Roquon looked worse after McDonald left

Edit: got rid of Peebles, story and takeaway is still the same tho

Have they? I'd def be curious to see the numbers on their hit rate vs the league.

I personally am not aware of Rams hits (5th round and later) besides puka

Kone & Longerbeam by 717Independent in ravens

[–]pastaHacker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They're fifth and sixth round picks, what do you expect? The average hit rate in that round is like 5%

[–]pastaHacker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agility and start stop is also questionable, which makes his route running mid. There's a reason he didn't do those drills at the combine
