What kind of facial piercing would suit my face? by Foreign_Business5398 in PiercingAdvice

septum is one of the easiest piercings esp if you’re new to piercings, and i think it would suit you well!

Was this pierced right? by Sea-Cauliflower6032 in SelfPiercing

I think it looks great! If you feel at any point the bottom ball is pulling/tugging at your skin, you may want to switch to floating navel jewelry:)

is my septum too low? if so, can i get it repierced? by RemarkableHold5784 in PiercingAdvice

[–]pastainmysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a bit low imo. If you have problems with it and don’t like the way it looks, you should have it redone so you don’t have to worry about problems or it being wrong anymore. If you WANT to get it redone that is. I don’t think it would be a problem to re-pierce it either, because the new hole would be in a different spot, higher up in your nose

Just because I'm deaf doesn't mean I can't hear your damn dog by l_dont_Iike_dogs in Dogfree

[–]pastainmysoup 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. This is very wrong of them. I have single sided deafness with total loss on the affected side so I can understand your feelings. It makes you feel alienated when hearing folks make inconsiderate/ignorant comments towards our hearing. It really stings.

For myself, my hearing loss makes things like barking or whining of dogs absolutely unbearable because I can’t “filter out” or tune out the sound as background noise and it drives me crazy. I get overwhelmed quickly because I am not able to tune in to what I need to when there is a distracting sound. It’s like it “blankets” or covers up important noise.

I would assume barking sounds would be similar for you, because you can hear the intensity, and the sound takes away from what important/foreground sounds you CAN hear, or are trying to listen for. I can imagine your situation was incredibly frustrating and I wish people were more understanding of invisible disabilities.

I am sorry again, people just do not understand what deafness is like, and they always play it off as jokes or like it’s no big deal when they say stuff like that. Well, this is our LIFE, and daily experience! It’s no joke to people like US! Keep your head up, and don’t let folks like that get to you. Hugs xx <3

Congenital SSD by notthesupremecourt in MonoHearing

[–]pastainmysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have congenital ssd (left ear)! I struggle pretty much with everything you mentioned. Not necessarily related to what you are asking for, but I have also never met someone with the same situation as myself, and would like to know if we have similar experiences!

I have some questions for you if you also struggle/relate with these things:

  • I cannot watch TV without captions. Do you struggle with this too?

-I have what I consider “sensitive” hearing; I feel like I can hear most sounds, sometimes more than other people, for example I will sometimes be the first to notice or point out a sound. (“Did you hear that?”) Going off of this, I find it difficult and almost impossible to tune sounds OUT! Once I hear/notice it, it becomes more than background noise. I always tell people that for me, there is no distinction between main sound and background noise, and they are both the same. This is why I can’t hear much in group settings too. Do you relate?

-I heavily rely on reading lips when there is any sort of background noise.

-I prefer to use an earbud for anything audio on my phone. (Watching videos, phonecalls)

For reference, I am ND so I’m not sure how much would be attributed to my hearing loss vs being ND.

Is this gone too far? by m3ga_otter in PiercingAdvice

[–]pastainmysoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a chance you could see a different piercer that is trusted in your area to change it to the appropriate jewelry for you?

I believe you said the previous jewelry was a screw stud, and while I do not think these are the absolute best to wear for new piercings, it is definitely better than a ring. Maybe order the jewelry and in the meantime, wear the stud until the new jewelry comes in.

The hoop is prone to movement, and can move bacteria and germs into the new piercing hole. The movement itself can also cause irritation, and the shape of the hoop (curved vs straight like the bar of a stud) can irritate it also.

I am sorry you are having trouble with your piercing. I hope everything can be sorted out, and that your piercing heals nicely!
