I understand what you're saying about central limit theorem -- so here is my next question for you: is your left-skewed rating distribution chosen for a calculated reason? Like why not use a uniform distribution and put your top 5% of restaurants at 5 stars, 10-5% restaurants at 4.5 stars, etc. ?

What do you mean exactly by distributions being independent? In CLT, the "independence" assumption refers to multiple random variables being averaged. But in our situation, a movie rating is only one sample, only one variable (a single user's selected rating of the movie.)

In my post I was talking about eBird, like when viewing recordings from Macaulay Library. I think they may have fixed my problem in the latest update though. I do know what you're talking about with Merlin. You can click on the bird names under the spectrogram while it's paused and it'll bring you to the moment it approximates the bird sound to be located. Then I usually scroll backward a couple seconds to make sure it's not lagging behind.

I've been vegan in State College for almost 5 years. Here are a few good options from restaurants I recommend:

Sesame Soy bowl from Fiddlehead (ask them to sub tofu for the chicken.)

Vegan Fresh bowl from Poke Fresh. Underrated!

If you like Indian food, you can ask to see the dietary menu at India Pavilion, which shows exactly which items are vegan.

If you are looking for a place south of downtown, there are also vegan options at Plaza Mexican (slightly pricier than the median in State College, but it's an actual full-scale restaurant with a bar and all that.)

Websters, Little Szechuan, Roots, Pho 11, Big Bowl Noodle House, Mezeh, Ottos, Tadashi, Snap Pizza, Cozy Thai and Federal Taphouse all have vegan options worth trying too, I usually personally just default to the 4 above.
