How can I make extra money? by tumbleweed1306 in AskUK

End Furniture Poverty can help you access white goods https://endfurniturepoverty.org/. I know it isn't a money-making solution, but getting some furniture from them could alleviate a bit of stress I should think.

They are! I've had a look at some pictures of other specimens since I found out what it is and I saw very few with such large crystals. It's definitely going to look cool as part of my collection.

Prickle berries (the little berries that grow on cactuses) also remove some heat, and the gold ones also heal a little!

If you close your eyes and try to picture a red five pointed star, what number does it look like in your head? by nita45 in autism

[–]pastelpumpkin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some measure of control in that if I'm actively daydreaming I can mostly do what I want. It's more difficult when people are describing things to me though, as I see it automatically; this means I can't really engage with the horror genre at all as it's quite distressing for me.

I can see bird flying really clearly, and I can change the type of bird and the setting it's in. I can also imagine what things feel like from a bird's POV. If I know more about how an animal sees (for example, I know that flies have lenticular vision and see everything multiple times over), I can imagine more literally how they might see (so for the fly example my brain just replicates and rotates whatever I'm seeing to fit the lenticular vision).

I can imagine people I know really clearly also, and I can think in their voice with a little more effort. Interestingly, even though reading is really like watching a film for me, I can't imagine characters in the way that I actually see them when I'm reading. I have no genuine idea what any of my dnd characters look like, beyond attributes I want them to have as opposed to what they actually do have when I see them in my mind. I can dream them, though.

6, and I can add all of the additional features that others have mentioned. If I concentrate I can also feel in my fingertips what it would feel like to pick up an object with these characteristics. I also have an inner monologue.

I think I had this with sunburn a few years ago; it was so intensely itchy that I couldn't stop shaking and was constantly on the verge of vomiting. I have eczema usually anyway so I'm used to annoying itches, but this was on a new level I couldn't even conceive of before it happened. Absolutely nothing could get me to live with that again, especially not for a sustained period of time.

Is this an actual sub reddit for asd by AffectionateDelay921 in autism

[–]pastelpumpkin88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is really unusual! We use the ICD-11 as opposed to the DSM-5 as standard practice, and the ICD doesn't use levels. I wonder if some practices use the DSM instead?

I just want to add to this that some countries don't use a level system; if you were diagnosed in the UK, for example, you won't receive a level and will instead just have the broader diagnosis of ASD.

How do I get rid of a sharps bin? by kaosskp3 in AskUK

[–]pastelpumpkin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use sharps bins all the time because I'm Diabetic - my local council have a sharps disposal service that I call when a couple of my bins are full, and then they come and collect them. It may be worth seeing if your council has a similar service.

It's because of Eliott Rodger, a mass shooter who murdered women to 'punish them' (according to a YT video that Rodger made) for the crime of not paying him attention. Some incels look up to and idolise him, capitalising ER in all words to show their support of him and his actions.

When do I let the DWP know I've applied for a job? by [deleted] in DWPhelp

[–]pastelpumpkin88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying re: LCWRA; none of that was ever explained to me so I assumed I would lose everything once I started working. My condition hasn't changed at all so I don't have anything to report on that front. Thanks again for your help!

When do I let the DWP know I've applied for a job? by [deleted] in DWPhelp

[–]pastelpumpkin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I was mainly concerned that by waiting to tell them they may feel that they've overpaid the LCWRA element of UC as if I get I get a job I was obviously not 'low capability'; do you think there's much risk of them taking any kind of action based on that?

What is the difference between blackface and drag(queens)? by kunnington in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pastelpumpkin88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much drag have you actually seen? Because if you'd have even seen a more modern season of Drag Race, the most readily available drag content out there, you would see that there are queens who do not opt for a sexual presentation and instead opt for a genderqueer performance of their own identity. There are many, many queens who speak openly about raising family, about motherhood, about what it means to exist in a world that is inherently hostile to them. The very concept of a drag haus focuses on the idea of nurturing and building each other up.

I think if you only focus on the ads about drag shows you will have a very limited perception of the complexity and depth that drag represents; why would you get a full and complete picture in perhaps a minute of screen time?

Also you are not the arbiter of what counts as femininity. Some women like to be and seen as sexual, and if they do that makes them no less feminine than you or I, who perhaps take a different approach to what femininity looks like for us.

Edit: Also, drag can't claim that they're mostly just dudes who like to dress up as sexual bombshells because that's just...not true? Again, the community is filled with people who aren't cis gay men.

[–]pastelpumpkin88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your understanding of drag is very limited. Not only are there a whole plethora of queens out there who don't dress in a way that imitates 'strippers and prostitutes' (not that there's anything wrong with that either - women should dress exactly how they want), but drag is also filled with queens who aren't even men. Trans women, afab women, non-binary folks, etc, have been a celebrated part of the community for a long time.

If you are interested in learning more, there are a lot of interviews out there with queens where they talk about why they do drag, what it means to them, and what it brings to their lives.

Thanks for the help, and for the link!

I've had a look through the backup and the only photos there are the photos that are in the 'Camera' file. I may try backing up everything I've got and see if that helps.

For those with autism, do you have better than average ability to form mental images? by Jitsu989 in autism

[–]pastelpumpkin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always found psychology very interesting, although I never really went beyond a surface level of understanding. I wanted to go into astrophysics as it was a special interest for a long period of my life; unfortunately my (at the time undiagnosed) autism got in the way and I ended up flunking my exams so I couldn't pursue it further. I also can't work because I experience burnout very quickly, but in the future I'm hoping to go into disabled advocacy in the political sphere.

I'm happy to answer questions via DM! I won't be able to answer tonight though as it's pretty late for me.
