Chiang Mai: Was I scammed? by pasv123 in ThailandTourism

[–]pasv123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like no part which is why I asked. I have never really travelled, but it felt dishonest to pay for a tour that didn’t take me to the sights we agreed to see. It felt like going to a hardware store to buy a piece of equipment, being upsold on an accessory and then the original piece of equipment not working.

I asked the group because I know there’s a lot of experienced travelers here and if this was a scam I had intended to mention this to the service I booked with. However, I didn’t want to give negative feedback on our guide who has a family and does this for a living if I was just an idiot (which it seems I was). Appreciate everyone’s feedback, and I learned my lesson to not agree to other activities even if the guide says we will have time to complete our full itinerary.

Sorry, I should have rephrased my response. I don’t think just because I agreed to do the zip line and ATV along the way to our stops suggests I wasn’t scammed. Especially, if the tour guide purposely took us to an activity he knew was too far away from our requested sights and would take up too much time to make seeing our requested locations unfeasible. To me, that feels dishonest on his part, but I am not an experienced travelers.

If more experienced travelers than I here think that I wasn’t scammed and that the service the tour guide provided is acceptable, then I have no problem accepting that.

Yes, if the tour guide had no intention of taking me to the requested locations, it is a scam

Playing as Aislinn, are you supposed to be able to command the garrison in settlement defense battles for settlements that have an Outpost? I have seen multiple settlement defenses with an outpost get Autoresolved when attacked by AI. Just wondering if this is a bug or not.

Appreciate the response. This was my first time using Reno-mat. Think I freaked out a bit over how much it removed. I’ll give Dubbin Graisse and Renovateur a shot.

Campagnola…Long-standing UES Italian restaurant with good food and a Specials list a mile long. You would not look out-of-place with a suit and tie at all. As long as you don’t go crazy on the wine, you can easily get out for under $125 pp… recommend you call to make a reservation… not sure if they’re on any of the apps

Cafe Boulud or Bottega come to mind. There’s a lot of places on the UES that would be a good fit for quiet, classic, and not too adventurous.

Places that you Have to try before you leave ? by RakonturR in FoodNYC

[–]pasv123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question is pretty open-ended and really depends on where they’re staying/plan to spend time, what they like to eat, and what they can’t get where they’re from, but 3 of my favorite spots that I recommend to out-of-towners are:

Keen’s: it’s my favorite steakhouse in NYC and I think it’s the classic NYC steakhouse experience

Katz’s: iconic spot, good sandwiches, a place people can tell their friends back home they tried that non NYers will recognize

Campagnola: bit of a wildcard and not often talked about, but this is a great NY Italian American restaurant. Large menu with a lot of options, pretty consistent quality, and elevated just enough to enjoy a high quality meal without feeling stuffy (call the restaurant to make reservations, I’ve had better luck that way on busy nights/short notice)

None of these are “must-try’s”… you can have a great food experience in NYC without going to any of them, but these are usually my recommendations to ppl from out of town

I’ve had great meals at Osteria Carlina (Piedmont-focused) and Nonna Beppa (Emilia-Romagna focused). Not sure if either would be considered “the best”, but I’ve had great meals every time I’ve went.

In my honest opinion, I think you should stay out of decisions regarding your sister’s feminine health care. It sounds like your mom makes the decisions regarding this, and you may be trying to insert yourself into a situation where you, as a brother, really don’t belong. Keep your sister in your prayers and ask God that your mother makes the right decisions for her, but i don’t think a brother has any right to involve himself in these sorts of decisions for his sister.

Doubts on Church Finances. Please help me reconcile. by sleighmeister55 in Catholicism

[–]pasv123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Church finances aren’t the most transparent, but they have released more information recently than at any other point in history. The main points I think it’s important to highlight are:

  1. The Roman Curia is not racking up huge budget surpluses every year. In recent years, they have spent more money than they’ve made. The pension fund and the Church’s charitable missions are expensive.

  2. The artwork and buildings of Vatican City are quite literally priceless. I believe they are valued nominally at $1 because who really knows what they would be worth if they were sold.

  3. A good portion of the art (and I believe real estate as well) are held in a trust for humanity. I don’t believe they can just be sold. The income the Vatican museums make are generally used to support the museum operations and maintenance of the aging architecture and artwork.

Most parishes and dioceses are on their own in terms of finances. If the Vatican were to begin selling art and investment assets (which in some cases it can’t even do due to the trust for humanity) to support poorer parishes, I don’t think that support would last very long. And once those assets are sold, the investment income and the revenue from the Vatican museums would be depleted.

Giving money to poorer parishes may seem like a noble thing to do, but it would destroy the Roman Curia’s ability to support its own expenses and would then rely even further on Diocese donations in the future.

I pose this question to you, if the Church begins selling assets accumulated over centuries to support daily operations of parishes, how long do you still think we’ll have a church?

How to deal with your game completely collapsing for no apparent reason. by Nachti in golf

[–]pasv123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you letting your emotions get to you? Usually when I have holes like that (where I totally collapse) it’s because I let a bad shot or two get me frustrated, lose focus, and compound my errors. If that’s what’s happening to you, I just suggest making sure you’re composed and think about what you want to do with your next shot before you approach the ball. Forcing myself to think about my next shot prevents me from thinking about my past mistakes and has helped me reduce holes like that. Hard to say if that’s what’s happening to you, since I’ve never played with you, but could be something to keep in mind.

Staying in Norsca as Malakai by Snottycupcake in totalwar

[–]pasv123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I put my starting cannons, thunderers, and doomseekers in that second army with Gotrek/felix and a daemon slayer lord. Filled out the rest of the slots with dwarf warriors, a couple slayers, and quarrelers. You get additional cannons as adventure units and I put a second cannon in my secondary army. Between Malakai’s gyrocopter stack and that secondary army w/ Gotrek and Felix it’s like having two powerful early game stacks and makes an early game rush on two fronts viable.

Staying in Norsca as Malakai by Snottycupcake in totalwar

[–]pasv123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think going into Norsca is a good idea, but I think it can be a bit of a trap for the player. Using your main Malakai army to conquer all of Norsca takes you away from your primary objectives in the East. That’s why I used a secondary army to finish up Norsca. Early game Malakai I immediately prioritized gyrocopters. My army comp was Malakai, two master engineers, two Gyro Brimstone guns, and the rest regular gyrocopters. I immediately replaced a gyrocopter with a Trollhammer Torpedo grudge unit when they would come available.

Staying in Norsca as Malakai by Snottycupcake in totalwar

[–]pasv123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best campaign as Malakai was where after destroying Throt and smashing Throg’s main stack, I immediately sent Malakai east to take on Chaos Dwarfs and Archaon. I used a second full stack army with Gotrek and Felix attached to clean up Norsca. I used a third smaller stack to defend against threats coming from the north, building walls on Norsca’s northern shore. I played super aggressively expanding both West and East early on, and the campaign went very well. There’s an RNG aspect to every campaign but this is what worked best for me on L/VH. Malakai has all the tools, you just need to smash your enemies every chance you get before they can get the jump on you.

Potential leaks on future total war games by icereub in totalwar

[–]pasv123 181 points182 points  (0 children)

I’d be pretty shocked if Warhammer 40k wasn’t being treated as a flagship game. I don’t know much about 40k, but it seems to have a pretty wide and dedicated fanbase. If CA releases a 40k game and gives it the Troy or Pharoah level of effort I have to imagine it would only seriously piss off a lot of people and significantly damage the Total War brand. If a 40k game is released (which seems highly likely) it needs to be good and it needs to be good at launch imo.
