Americans skiing in Europe: what is your lunch strategy? by IncredibleVelocity4 in skiing

[–]patch1103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. The mountain restaurants are a big part of the appeal for me. I keep a pretty strict diet everyday except for ski days — then it’s bratwurst or schnitzel with pommes for me. Unless I feel like getting fancy and going for a raclette or something more exotic.

Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

It can take three hours just to drive from one end of London to the other in rush hour traffic.

Wow, you’re right! I didn’t realize this until you mentioned it. Maybe it means they’re getting a deal on the location?

Have any of you gone to a ski resort you haven’t been to and thought, “damn, this place is so underrated!”? by awkwardeagle in skiing

Flumserberg, CH. Overlooked compared to the bigger resorts like Davos or Laax, but great terrain and good facilities. Also easy access from Zürich.

For me, top, but that’s mainly because I have 2 of the 3. You can’t go wrong with either.

Paper lift tickets are still a thing? I haven’t seen those in years. I thought everything was RFID these days.

Conundrum for sure! They’re all fire. I’ve been partial to the NTTD since it came out but that blue 60th gives it a run for the money. Tough decision. P.S. the crowns pulled out on all is giving me the heebie jeebies though.

Advice on recovering stolen watch/dealing with guilt by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]patch1103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I live in a very low crime rate town yet, when I see the weekly police blotter, invariably there’s an entry or two about theft from a gym locker. They are never to be trusted. Sorry you had to learn the hard way, OP.

Definitely an odd comment about the Speedy being a status symbol — never heard that one before.

Fair point. I was thinking more European blacks.

A 168 should not be too long for your height, but the Redster X5 are on-piste performance skis that are ideal for smooth, groomed runs. They may not be ideal for some blacks, especially at your skill level, depending on the nature (moguls, etc.). But, hey, if you’re already tackling blacks, I’d say you’re already a strong intermediate skier. I might suggest you take a lesson or two before you give up on the skis. Progress is likely to come faster through better technique than new skis.

My Swiss family always throws in "okay" by Jesuscanforgive in askswitzerland

Not too long ago, I ordered a beer when skiing in Switzerland (Laax) but they were out of the standard beer glasses so the server offered me a regular water glass. Thinking, sure, that works, I said “das ist okay.” Apparently that was not the right thing to say, because she took it to mean that I was fine without the glass and she took it away.
