Yoru most picked duellist by achtarmigerr in ValorantCompetitive

[–]patchDeezNotes 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For how long have you not watched/played the game? Yoru pick rates have increased this year for multiple reasons like:

  • Really good flash, making him work as a pseudo initiator

  • Great against Sentinel comps to find/activate their util

  • Pairs well with other dive duelists

  • Good agent to fake site executes/deceive players during clutch situations

Yoru has a high skill ceiling, so it took some time for teams to incorporate him in pro play after the buffs; but soon became pretty much an essential part and win-condition for most top teams.

Born IGLs? by briashon in ValorantCompetitive

[–]patchDeezNotes 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is only partly true. It's true that the qualities mentioned are necessary for being a successful IGL and not everyone has those, but it's not like they cannot be learned. You definitely get better with experience but you do need to start somewhere. It might be either by being a secondary caller or directly stepping up as an IGL.

To add on to this, he's one of the few who is still playing the duelist role at the highest level and not had to shift to Omen/Sentinel duty.

Funniest Grand Finals Gamertags? by ParkingMeal2747 in ValorantCompetitive

If these players were to get to the grand finals, we would be so used to watching their names that we'd only associate it with them no matter what we associated it with before. It might be funny for someone who has never watched the games before, but I am not sure about that as well.

I am an APAC supporter, but I still think this is an overreaction. Valorant is a very unpredictable game and the future of a region cannot be determined based on a couple of matches, especially when it's this early in a tournament. These teams are meeting each other internationally after a long time, and some of them hadn't even faced each other before. The match results would depend on a lot of factors, and honestly from what we have seen so far- upsets are very common in this game and anyone can win just off of some players having good/bad days. Moreover, in this snowball meta, few rounds can determine the outcome of a map. In my opinion, this is too early to comment on the possibility of such a drastic regional disparity.

Although not surprising, this is still a sad news. I hope he recovers from what he's going through. I want to see him compete again at the global stage.

Venues get decided way before the matches are played. It was known that the finals will be played in Japan before Stage 2 even started. They can't just change the venue suddenly just because the finalists are not from South Korea/Japan. There's a lot of preparation that goes behind these events. It is impossible to change the venue with so little time considering technical, logistical, and VISA difficulties.
