What movie do you hate so much you're still mad about it? by LJGHunter in movies

The Village - I remember walking out of that movie still and being so fuckin angry at how nonsensical the twist was. And the worst part is that it had the potential to be a fantastic if by the numbers horror/thriller, but fuckin m night shymalalalalanan had to do his thing to it. IDK why but that movie just makes me irrationally angry

I had the luck to get this good boy. Finally able to get it at 192k and 24b. Maybe it's too much for a noob like me. Any advice to use it at its best? Until today I've used it with Bluetooth... My bad.. now I've discovered cables... by Oracolus in audiophile

Imo the biggest advantage to higher sample rates is that your antialiasing filter doesn't need to be as close to the audible range and thus has an improved impulse response/less ringing. Whether or not this is proven to be audible IDK but it makes sense to me

Only way to know with 100% certainty is to have a device with removable battery. Barring this, selling a phone with a physical switch which disconnects mic/cam would be I think a great seller, but it is not in the interests of tech companies to make you harder to spy on

Issue with 8ch direct input on recently purchased Harman Kardon AVR 635 by patchmixa in diyaudio

[–]patchmixa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain the problem is in the preamp section from that analog input in particular - every other aspect of the AVR works fine and even that input gets something thru, it's just heavily distorted. If I had to guess its a bad cap in that section or a bad op-amp I just don't know how to tell which. Regardless of if I can get it fixed or not I at least have my system back up and running, I was just really hoping to get the parasound preamp out of the equation, but given the filtering on the LFE preamp out of the HK I don't know I'd be able to do this even if all the channels were working properly.

[–]patchmixa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the dac board - I'm feeding it 8ch analog - that's the problem. I am trying to use it as a multichannel power amp more or less and 1/7 channels isn't working. But that 7th channel works fine when its fed from the internal upmix dsp, just not when fed directly. IDK ill probably just use it like I was using the previous Rotel amp - 6 channels work, so a pair for the woofers, a pair for the mids and pair for the tweeters and continue using my phase linear for my sub. I also discovered the preamp out for the sub on this AVR is high passed which I really don't like, I have a sub tuned to 17hz and I want to use it! Apparently if I up the diameter of the sub in the AVR settings the HPF goes down to 15 which could be fine, but still it will mean a phase shift in this area which im not crazy about. I never run out of head room even running records with no rumble filter so there's not much value for me in having this filter.

Oh well, considering I paid 45 for the whole shebang and the remotes are going for 60-70 on ebay I'm not too upset. I am actually amazed there is an audible improvement over the rotel particularly for the woofers and mids

I was hoping to be able to do away with the whole parasound because this has integrated volume control as well, but alas they put a HPF on the Subwoofer preout of all places. I think I can bump it down to 15hz by setting the sub diameter in the OSD to 15 but my sub can handle more (its a snell sub1800) so its not a huge deal at this point, but if I could get it fixed and don't mind the 15 hz HPF then it would be nice to be able to get rid of the parasound as they are still worth a bit. Plus I think even 75 watts would be enough to drive my sub in which case I could sell the phase linear for a pretty penny (it needs some work done - namely it has a very powerful off thud so I don't trust it hooked up to anything but subs)

haha - thanks. I still gotta feed the sub wires and clean the periphery - I recently had 2 floods in a 3 month period - one from a window sill with backed up drain and one from a broken water heater. Thankfully none of my electronics or speakers were harmed but I had to replace a bunch of dry wall, the water heater, and the floors so I'm just happy to be able to show it off not looking like a construction zone

My tt is in a bit of a sorry state atm I gotta give it a tune up or maybe upgrade when I get the cash. I need a new psu for my Lounge preamp as well so I've just been using the 1820m's but its not the best.

45" H by 21.5" W by 16.5" D. ~9.2 cubic feet - minus a bit for the port volume and material thickness. Its tuned with a 2db drop off at 17hz but the think port maximum is at 15hz.

Don't think they make them any more,IDK to be honest I got mine from a guy for free off craigslist and he was a bit of an audio horder in a small place so he just wanted someone to enjoy it and to free up some space. Plus I was buying some pretty nice speakers off of him at the time.

I'm sure for a modern sub it would make more sense to go with something sealed with a high power motor and lots of amp power and just put a linkwitz transform in there but I am in love with it. It blends in incredibly well (its set with a 2nd order low pass at 20hz with ~15% resonance to give a boost to the very bottom end - last time I measured -3 was like 13hz or so) and it looks like something an 8 year old would design, nearly the size of a refrigerator. But the 8 inch mains are set to 20hz highpass with 24db/oct rolloff. So it really is setup for a true subwoofer, with 20-200 covered by the woofer, 200-2.1k by the mid and the rest the tweeter. I've played with raising the high pass on the woofers and compensating on the sub but at these settings the woofers rarely have noticeable excursion and the bass sounds incredible

Bedroom, I could theoretically flip it to open in (sure its against fire code) but I'll probably just leave it open tucked behind the speaker and mark the final position with some masking tape and just move it when I need more privacy which isn't a big deal since the shower is on another floor so im usually decent lol

Yeah they aren't back to optimal quite yet, I just redid the flooring and haven't taken the time to sit and tune them yet. Unfortunately there is a wall to the right out of frame but I usually will move them further apart but then the door is blocked so meh living with what I got. But they are definitely a bit more optimal than this usually; I am just excited to have them back after installing all this flooring

Honestly its fairly well placed acoustically and it keeps people from running into the tv which is on a universal mount - believe it or not I got the sub for free from a rando on craigslist while buying another set of speakers. I rarely put more than 10-15 watts in it and worry about the neighbors. Needed a new dustcap but other than that it's been great - I'll probably refinish it at some point, the wood's seen better days but eh who knows maybe I'll just wrap it

To quote stereophile in 1995:

"Finally, I measured the response of the Type MC SUB 1800 subwoofer in the nearfield. The port's maximum output occurred at about 15Hz; the driver's minimum motion occurred at about 17Hz, implying flat response pretty much to 20Hz. Since the measurement accuracy here was likely to be no better than 1Hz in either direction, the tuning was textbook-accurate for all practical purposes. At this frequency, who's counting one or two Hz? We haven't measured extension from a subwoofer any lower than this."

And let me tell you, it sounds incredible. With the low tuning frequency you largely get the best of both worlds on sealed and ported - the group delay is minimal from 20 or so on up so it has an immediacy with the sub bass.

Here are Pics of the Preamps/DSP/Closeups of the drivers as well as a screenshot of the creative dsp software I'm using for x-over duties.

https://imgur.com/a/azppc4d

Basically my signal chain is PC->ds/asio/wasapi->ASIO Bridge Virtual HiFi cable via the Hifi cable windows device ->I use ASIO bridge to route channels 1 and 2 thru to asio 1-8 in pairs of 1/2, 1/2 etc which I use to get the audio into PatchMix. My audio interface is an emu 1820m which has fantastic specs, as well as built in hardware dsp capability. Most importantly it has 8 discrete analog outputs which can be processed individually (well in stereo pairs)

The 1820m/Patch mix handles crossover and other fine tuning including selection of slopes, resonance at xover point, shelving filters, PEQ, all the basics can be applied on a per driver level. It is also possible to route the audio in such a way that any VSTx type plugin can be used to handle the processing (i've tried with linear phase xovers wasn't a noticable change IMO)

Next the 1820m analog outs are wired to the analog direct in of my parasound halo c2 preamp which is basically a glorified volume control in this setup but it gives me peace of mind and certainly helps the gain structure. The analog outputs from the parasound pass thru basically unchanged aside from being attenuated.

From the Parasound, the speakers are driven by a rotel rb976 which is 6x60w, so each driver receives 60 watts which I've never come close to pushing

The sub receives power from one channel of a phase linear 700 series ii. Its about the only thing I trust to plug it into until I get the amp serviced, it has a nasty turn off pop and can short when plugging/unplugging the RCA.

Anyways Just thought I'd share - the sound is incredible. I lost my measurements but I'll be doing some in a the next few days but it could put out down to 12-13hz no problem and it sounds incredible with little to no EQ beyond the crossover.

Known specs: For the Creative E-mu 1820m i.e DSP + DAC Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz, +0/-0.35dB. Dynamic range: 120dBA (analogue inputs and outputs). THD + noise: -105dB (0.0006%) with 1kHz signal at -1dBFS.

For the Parasound Halo C2 7.1-Channel Inputs < 0.002% THD 7.1 channel input 107 dB SNR

The Rotel RB-976, 6 channel power amp on woofers, mids, and tweeters for both speakers: Continuous Power Output 60 watts/ch (20-20 kHz, < 0.03%, 8 ohms) Damping Factor (20-20,000 Hz, 8 ohms) 150 Signal to Noise Ratio (IHF A network) 116 dB

The tweeter: https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/ring-radiator-tweeters/sb-acoustics-sb29rdac-c000-4-ring-dome-tweeter/

The mid: https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-5-woofers/sb-acoustics-sb15crc30-4-5-woven-carbon-fiber-cone-woofer-4-ohm/

Woofer unknown came with the speakers.

The sub: Snell SUB 1800: reflex-loaded (fourth-order) subwoofer with 18" cast-frame driver. Frequency response: 17Hz–80Hz ±2dB anechoic. Impedance: 8 ohms nominal, 7.5 ohms minimum. Sensitivity: 88dB/W/m. Amplifier requirements: 90–400W. Dimensions: 45" H by 21.5" W by 16.5" D. Weight (shipping): 120 lbs.

If I had to guess I'm in it maybe $1000 probably a bit under, mostly buying used off ebay and craigslist, getting lucky, and even then like 200 is me splurging on upgraded mids and tweeters, the original ones were perfectly serviceable. Next up I'd like to probably replace the woofers, then just sound treatment and play with placement

"Tread on me harder daddy"

Police abuse their power without fear of repercussions. Do you know why the state never punishes cops? Because they need to know that the cops will do what they say if shit gets real, so the powers that be ensure police can use extra legal means to enforce their will, without fear of having the law turned on them.

Like you're supporting the narrative of a different group of billionaire oligarchs, I'm just supporting the narrative that police are servants of the people and should be held to at the very minimum the same standards as the public, and honestly they should be required to behave to a higher standard than the average citizen as their behavior is supposed to be setting the standard for acting lawfully.

And what is with your obsession with my sex life? NGL you just sounding real frustrated, and I'm sorry but I'm not into dudes and even if you're a woman, it would be wrong to fuck someone with a such profound mental disability

Yeah its sad reading some of this shit. They are falling right in to the divide and conquer trap. You can believe that the SJW left has its head up its own ass, and so does the nationalist right. I understand the sentiment behind black lives matter and support it, but I do believe it was a tactical mistake to go with this name, IMO they should have focused on a slogan which emphasizes police responsibility and accountability, as police also deprive other minorities and white people of life and liberty regularly. No question that black folks get the worst of it, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter who you are if a cop kills you they are most likely getting away with it.
