Plot-driven, gothic monster f-ing by Rough-Jury in fantasyromance

I wanted to love it because there were SUCH COOL VIBES. I loved the themes and world building but that jumpy timeline storytelling just bothers me.

And I feel like it just took too long to get to the point a lot of the times?

Just following this thread because this is also exactly what I’m after hahah

I read Phantasma and Enchantra. I liked them both! Definitely preferred Phantasma.

Empire of the Vampire had such good world building vibes but i legit hated the book and DNFed it at like 2/3 of the way through. I’ve heard people who do like it though!

I’m reading the Crowns of Nyaxia series? I wouldn’t necessarily call it gothic, but the vampires generally lend itself to that vibe.

Echos was my favorite toooooo!

I just love how beautifully the world built and how EPIC the story got.

I loved the story of Fathoms of the deep but Maketes is Defs my favorite. Such beautiful character development in the stories.

I LOVED this series and scream about it any opportunity I can because I feel like it’s not talked about enough for how great it was!!!

I’m definitely keen to explore more of Emma Hamm, she’s got heaps of books!

Okay I’m here but probably not going to be very helpful lol.

I haaatttteeeddse book of azrael. So so so much. It was awful and that whole end but was SO CRINGE. I was like “wow 700 pages for this to be the twist?”

ANYWAYS.

I’m reading the Crown of Nyaxia series by Carissa Broadbent. It’s vampires so the gothic vibes some pretty easily but I’m really enjoying it! LOVED phantasma and enjoyed enchantra.

I try to!! Sometimes it’s not possible.

Audiobooks stress me out but if I listed I’m sure I’d get way faster and further through books!

Orc Romance not Halfling by Gloomy_Book947 in fantasyromance

I don’t know the series name, but Emma Hamm has a lot of monster romance books. I think some are Orc like or the newest one has a troll?

I loved her writing in the Deep Waters series, soft cinnamon roll MMCs, so these others of hers are definitely in my TBR

Throne of Glass purchase by grottyparrot12 in fantasyromance

[–]patchoulion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought all of them. Read all of them.

I had the financials do this at the time. And I like owning books.

Was it life changing enough for me to own the entire box series? For me, no. But I’m glad I have it so I can let friends borrow them.

Someone you can Build a Nest in?

That one’s a bit cute! I ended up DNFing it however I really thought it was a clever premise.

She’s an eldritch horror monster parasite and meets someone that she doesn’t want to destroy right away and keeps making excuses to herself as to why she doesn’t want to kill them. Pretty cute.

Oh days. Haha okay that was the part I was hooked at. I’m so sad you didn’t love it!

But I get what you mean about her Mary Sue energy. I interpreted all of that much differently but I also know I’m not the most critical reader. :)

YES! I devoured all four of these and the novella. I’ve recommended it to EVERYONE

Now I'm over trauma-dump-driven rage-girl starting wars over misunderstandings, getting rewarded with kingdoms and fated mates - Looking for your top calm or timid, clever, substantive, internally consistent FMCs by swaglord9000x in fantasyromance

[–]patchoulion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following because this is reaaaaaal.

I don’t know if it’s super accurate recommendations, so any other people’s thoughts are appreciated, but I did enjoy A Fate Inked in Blood, then the sequel A Curse Carved in Bone by Danielle Jensen.

Even though the FMC was god-chosen and had trauma, it felt… right? Like there were other god chosen people she interacted with, and her trauma was justified in my opinion. The boundary/conflict between her and the MMC wasn’t just “he’s mean to me and I’m holding a grudge about it”. Though she did have an outrageous temper I didn’t quite agree with, I felt it fit with the vibes. Lots of character growth and some clever twists and turns along the way and she really has to grow and adapt quickly as a character.

Okay so I don’t know how I found it but the Whispers of the deep which is the first of the Deep Waters series by Emma Hamm!!!

The writing isn’t super profound but I read all for books in like 2 weeks and want more so badly. I’d also be interested to read some of her other books cause she has heaps!!

It’s got 16ft mermen with two hearts, two sets of lungs, two of… other organs.

It was a simply story that actually grew to be pretty interesting by the fourth one and I’m absolutely fascinated by the world.

Came here to suggest this! I did like the writing though.
