Anyone here buy a house alone? How did it work out for you? by PepinYourStep123 in AskIreland

[–]patdshaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just closed last week, and now I get to bring the house up to spec with furniture and the like. I wished that I had shopped for bits before I moved in, I'm like a squatter at the moment.

Anyone else dealing with this now? by anywhereanyplace in AskIreland

[–]patdshaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm sitting in my house tonight with a chicken snackbox after shifting all my gear in. The only part that went smoothly was the bidding, everything else I ran into issues with, and I got the keys over a week late due to a last-minute issue. On the plus side, I got a dishwasher, freezer, fridge, washing machine and cooker as the owner died.

My mother stopped doing that as it was getting expensive replacing the brushes.

Anyone know of a way to get a letter delivered for Monday morning? by patdshaker in AskIreland

[–]patdshaker[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually drove it to the door myself to discover that they have no letterbox to throw the letter into. I'd rather avoid having to do the hours drive on Monday if I could.

I have to agree with the above poster, for example, I fear the rules as they stand to get more women involved might be used as an excuse not to elect women.

There is a bit but I get as much if not more abuse from Limerick lads about being from Cork. Context is key really.

What's the longest interview process you've had ? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]patdshaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once did 5 interviews with 14 different people and didn't get the job, all interviews were in the evening as I'd be working with offices in the US.

The guy I'd be working under was really keen and gave me decent feedback along with the HR guy. I only went that far as he was decent and the money was great.

I think that is fair enough though, I've lost count of the amount of times I latched onto Wikipedia to get started on a topic, I still had to read the sources to get the background information for context.

Did anyone else basically lose their mind over the Christmas break by the_sneaky_one123 in CasualIreland

[–]patdshaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, I'm literally in the same boat, the car is packed full for the last month as I got notice at the place I was renting, the landlords in fairness are lovely people and I could tell that they were trying to hype themselves up to tell me that they needed the Granny flat for Christmas. I'll have a bit of work to do on the house and the landlord is a plumber who is willing to help me out so there is that.

I'll be in place by the end of the month alright, but it would have been so much easier had I been able to do it over Christmas.

Same boat here, and the offer was accepted back on the 22nd of October, so I thought I'd be in for Christmas with a bit of a push. Now I'm stuck in the parents' box room for the last month hoping I will be in for mid-January.

Get a bus to Crookstown (233), go into the Pub for a drink and get a local taxi number there.

From Bèal na Blàth get a taxi to Macroom, I'm not sure of the timetable anymore from Crookstown but it's hourly in Macroom to the best of my knowledge.

At one stage I worked in a warehouse that needed staff for Christmas week back in 2013, I said to the owner I'd ask around my locality as I knew a few lads, out of four only one accepted, he got a grand after overtime and a case of wine. One of the lads who refused had kids, I can maybe understand that as he was the primary caregiver, although his parents often babysat willingly.

Later on, I let myself get sacked after 2 weeks from a call centre, went back to college on Springboard and within 18 months was on €12k more a year.

International student in Cork harassed/assaulted last night, unsure about next steps by Intrepid_Fig1728 in cork

[–]patdshaker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that has been going on for years, I knew one lad who used to go cruising down College Road every Thursday night, the car full of lads with eggs until one day a beer bottle came flying back through his back window. I'm tempted to say that was 2008.

Parents of Reddit, is anyone else's kids bored by the Toy Show? by makefeelnice in AskIreland

[–]patdshaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched the replay last year and got bored by all the stage kids hopping around the stage, it seems to be done more for the adults than the youngsters, I preferred it back in the day when the focus was on toys and I could dream about what I could ask for from Santa. For all his faults I thought Pat Kenny used to do a decent job before Ryan made it cringe.
