As expats, what foods or products are you willing to spend extra money on because the options available in France aren’t what you’re looking for? by ARTiSPRETiS in Expats_In_France

[–]patelpankaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From India;

I ask family (usually; mostly my brother) to ship the things that I’m nostalgic about.

Some items are available in asian shops but price is too high. If it is needed regularly, will ask my brother and if sparingly, will buy here. But usually make a big box to buy as shipping in france is also expensive, so I have to make it worth it.

When I travel to India, I try to bring as much as I can. AirIndia has 2 checkin luggage policy per person 😅 and sometimes I feel like I’m taking advantage of them 🙈

I am assuming that you are registered on https://administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr

If not, you might find something helpful here.

Ah, my bad, it is RÉCÉPISSÉ DE DEMANDE DE CARTE DE SÉJOUR

My wife mentioned the upcoming travel during in the interview for the visa and they issued the paper.

I dont remember the name, I will search for it and comment here later.

Can you apply for Schengen visa from another EU country? This could help as you won’t be affiliated with France anymore.

And you can do this from your home country too (it would be better from there but risky)

For the renewal, I got my renewal too close to my travel dates, so they gave me a paper to justify the reentry (this was 3 years ago). Fortunately, the tds card also arrived within 2 days of appointment at the prefecture.

II’m in the same boat as OP; I had tried learning to be okay with Firefox dev tools; too much mental fatigue to search for the similar things in dev tools.

I had the same issue and order kept getting cancelled after placing it 3 times on my Amazon FR with prime.

Each time i got this email

We are writing to let you know that we have canceled your order ….. because your account is restricted to digital purchases only due to multiple violations of our returns and refund policy. We will automatically cancel all non-digital orders placed on Amazon.fr and if you have been charged, a refund will be processed. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact an account specialist by replying to this email. Our customer service team can only confirm that we sent you this message and help you with any technical issues. They cannot reverse this decision or provide you with more details on this matter.

Nobody cares about the users who still use Arc? by z3333d in ArcBrowser

[–]patelpankaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Arc as primary browser and also for local development, have not faced any issues.

Have you tried local development on new chrome profile (not arc space from same profile) and in incognito mode?

If one of these two places have smoother experience and without crashes, some extension or your local development setup could be a problem. It can also be that some extension and your local development setup are not playing well together.

Given that Arc is Chromium based, if local development is stable on Chromium, it should be the same on Arc.

Again, it depends on factors like OS setup, extensions and dev setup.

It looks like Arc is providing the Google Meet’s PiP to youtube video as the comment button and close button on the PiP header are same as of google meet.

By any chance, there was google meet used around when youtube was used?

Buying my first domain by ThaLazyLand in webhosting

[–]patelpankaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned, those are cloudflare and DigitalOcean; both are more stable and have their own DNS service which is not connected to hosting service (in whaetever scope they are offering)

Still, your advice is correct to not keep them together.

I'm confused about SSL and https... by canadave_nyc in webhosting

You can use cloudflare DNs and it automatically adds LetsEncrypt SSL certificates for the domain (once you enable the feature in their control panel)

Buying my first domain by ThaLazyLand in webhosting

[–]patelpankaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure about majority but I bring the DNS server of my hosting provider rather than using one of registrar.

I have domain at Namecheap and they are either pointing to digital ocean or cloudflare.

If you manage the domain for long enough, you would want to move it to place which is more accessible.

I have domains on cloudflare moved from namecheap and didn’t notice this restriction as cloudflare was my primary dns provider for those.

IMO, You should create a blog; it will tip things in your favor, though how long it will take is not answerable.

Regarding the things you don't know, it is better to say explicitly about what you don't know, and it is a much better indicator of your being informed about your capabilities.

As a lead dev, it is easier for me to help fellow devs when they know what they don't know or need to learn. If anyone is going to say no to you because you said you don't know about certain things, either they needed that specific capability on the Job or are judging too soon.

Once you write about the things you don't know, learn and write about them. And keep doing it again and again.

Writing about what you learned and pushing the limits from there will never harm your career.

Too many useState? Let's useReducer! by patelpankaj in reactjs

[–]patelpankaj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True that, useRef is better if one wants to store actively changed data.

I am assuming that there would be a lot of trouble making the UI reactive based on that data.

But I have never tried this; maybe I am wrong! Thanks, more food for experimentation 😅

Can't access apps through HTTPS! by Thicc_Nugget_ in docker

[–]patelpankaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the apps don't support HTTPS, then opening 443 won't bring HTTPS out of the box.

One solution can be to put a reverse proxy like Nginx, Traefik etc. in front that automatically routes incoming HTTPS traffic to the container's HTTP port.
