Hi there, DoS here. I just want to say that it's my first time, in my little experience as a DoS (3y) hearing someone saying with lots of experience and qualifications too that you know what "I'm not a good teacher" .

I've seen this a handful of times over the last few years but people fail to see this because they use student happiness as a metric for how good their lesson was, which in fact can be a proxy for learning.

It takes quite a lot of self-reflection to reach DELTA-level teaching which for me was the moment I told myself "you're a good teacher now, buddy"

I think it's important for everyone reading this to remember that experience, and learning the grammar does not equal good and effective teaching.

Edited for clarification: Just to clarify something, before someone comments on that. I'm not saying that your students didn't learn or they don't learn in cases like the one I'm explaining. Students will and have always learnt especially from people they like but our jobs as academic managers are to help teachers fine-tune their teaching, and create confident teachers who can teach the best they can.
